I had a short-action 700 Remington with a medium weight barrel that supposedly had thousands of rounds through it when I bought it used from a guy who had re-chambered it from a .222 to a .223. After I worked up a good load. it would shoot five-round groups at 100 yards that literally looked like a single .270 or .30 caliber bullet hole.
After a couple thousand more rounds, it remained as accurate as ever, but it suddenly started to misfire occasionally, and with all kinds of ammo, factory and handloads both. I simply could not figure out why, and neither could any 'smith I took it to.
I got so frustrated, I finally traded it to a guy who didn't care about that, because he was more interested in the stock and the Leupold scope that was on it.
I should have just kept the barrel, but figured it had too many rounds through it by then to justify the expense of putting it on a different action. I still second-guess myself about that decision.

I put together a T./C Contender a few months back but have yet to shoot it, I am having high hopes since my other Contenders and Encores do very well. Haven't had one yet that was not capable of 1 moa. or better!

Tikka M695 in 280Rem.
It is the only rifle I have that I did not mess with at all. I wonder if that is the reason it shoots so well..... ILya |

My CZ model 550 in a 22-250 and my old Weatherby mark V (German ) both shot sub moa out of the box and are the only rifles I have not made changes on. My Savage and Howa shoot very good but have had considerable changes. Trigger and stock on both, action tuned and barrel replaced on Savage with a Douglas double A air gaged barrel, actions bedded, barrels crowned etc.

Most accurate in my collection has to be the Sako 85 GW in 338fed. followed closely by my 22 year old Vanguard vgx .06, both shoot under 1/2" using factory ammo. I would change the original question to, "What is your most accurate factory rifle shooting factory ammo"? I just started reloading for my 06 but I still can't match the accuracy of federal fusions. My x-bolt shoots under an inch but not like the first two mentioned above.

Many Sako/Tikka votes; for those of you who have never tried one, I'd take the hint!

No surprise there, but there seem to be quite a few Vanguards, too...

For me the Savage 10FP .308 & .223 have been quite accurate but I'm hoping my R5 mil spec Rem 700 will be all they are said to be, Im just waiting for a scope.

For the money, its hard to beat a Tika T-3. Guaranteed accuracy of 1'',mine shoots .250'' in 243 with factory ammo.

For the record: of the 3 I own, the few I've owned and sold, and the few I've convinced friends to buy, none has ever shot worse than the guaranteed 1" - and most have done much better. |

I would have to say my Rem 700 .308...I have shot .19"-.25" MOA consistantly (with reloads of course).

I have a Heym 30-06 left hand bolt action. Bought it somewhere around the late 80's. Shoots 1/2 inch and better.

I have to agree with the Tikka T3. The first one I bought shot 3/8 group with my first handload. I stopped tinkering right there and that is the only load I shoot with that rifle.

For me, it has been:
No lie, I've had three different Vanguards and all have shot better than 0.75", with one in .270 Wby Mag that would seriously put any Weatherby factory round into one ragged hole...all at the same point of impact...130gr or 150gr. They are crazy accurate! I have a new Sako 85 GW in .338 Federal that I've yet to shoot, and a Steyr-Mannlicher SBS Pro Hunter in .270 Win on order. If they are anything like past examples, both should be sub-MOA right out of the box.

I hope my Tikka lives up to the hype (perhaps I should shoot it and see). For now it's a Remington 700 in .300 wm that will tear a ragged hole at 100 with everything except a 180 gr. Nosler Partition. I don't shoot very well, so sub-moa is a 'red letter day' for me.
