It will work just fine as long you ignore the bullet drop referrence for the .223.  Would be much better to get the

Trijicon ACOG 4x32 .308 TA01B.....$806.95

Chris, the ACOG's for the 5.5x50 .308 have reticles are camed out to 1200 meters.  I pulled this off of Trijicon's web site but you have the 5.56 reticle pictured for the 5.5x50.  Just thought I'd let you know.

It sure is a long way but I'd love to do it.  I don't know about that new external elevation knob for the ACOG but that external windage knob might help for that kind of shot.

mithran was saying the bac acogs were not good for hunting because their ranging reticle is meant for human sized targets, but hunting in new york i won't be ranging very far because hunting is done at closer range here.can you recommend the ta01b for .308?

chris it looks like you had no problem hunting with an acog. is that a ta11? i can't afford the ta11 for my ar10 but want to ask you if you would recommend the ta01b just the same. mithran thinks i should steer away from an acog for deer hunting at short distances, do you agree?

That's not me and I would never use an ACOG for hunting myself......maybe on an AR for hogs but not for deer.  The ACOG was designed and built for one weapon to do one thing.

If you are dead set on the ACOG then get one.  And if it doesn't work for hunting keep it anyways because you'll have one kick ass setup for tactical shooting.  The guy who took that bear probably had a laser range finder as well as his ACOG.

Maybe that bear was standing on his hind legs like a person when and if he ranged him.

I would hope someone would only take a bear with a much wider shoulder width than 19 inches.

That's 19 inches a whole lot closer than I would like to be.  I might consider getting that close if I had that new 4 inch .500 S&W just in case.

I think!!!!!

The 19 inches was the width of the Bears Head.

P.S   also the witdth of the Deers hind end running away.

Could work.

Depends on how big the deer is, I've seen some northern bucks that are double the size of some from S. Texas.

Would you take a Texas heart shot on this bad boy?
