My first hunt for 2009 has been planned! I am leaving on Sunday for a three day hunt. We are travelling about 250 miles north of Cape Town to a place called Beaufort Wes.
The farmer has several species on offer, but I will concentrate on blesbuck and impala. And then I have an order for 10 springbuck with a local butcher.
My new Rem VS is going with for some fancy culling shots.
Will keep you informed with some pics on my return!

Good luck 8's. Be careful while in the bush with the new face, you might come home with another kid from another country.

Godspeed and good hunting, 8!
Funny how I looked over my shoulder (from habit) to make sure The Warden wasn't looking BEFORE I clicked to see your thread, Wouter.....

Nothin' like meat whackin' for some great snackin'. I was introduced to biltong almost 20 years ago on my first trip to South Africa. Had to give up the morning's hunt to watch RSA and Australia compete in the rugby finals, with biltong and beer at 6 a.m. Not bad! |

OK, so what is the difference between biltong and jerky?
Cut/sliced thicker and not quite as dry, right?
Or is there more to it than that?

Usually sliced thicker, and also different spices. One spice often used in biltong is coriander, which you'd NEVER see in jerky, but as in the U.S. a lot of Africa hunters have their special recipe. In general I now prefer biltong to American jerky, and often make my own with a spice recipe obtained from one of my PH's.
