Handgun Registration through the IRS
SB-2099

There is a new bill being run through the Senate (SB-2099) and it will effect all gun owners. The bill has been sent to the Committee on finance. This bill mandates a $50 transfer tax and a $50 registration tax plus a registration of the handgun. This is a backdoor handgun registration and means that the info will be public record and could be used by the government to save the records which is in violation of the Brady Bill. E-mail or write your Senators and Representatives concerning this, remind them that this is an election year and WE WILL REMEMBER.

If you would like to read the bill, go to Thomas at:

http://thomas.loc.gov/  and search on "SB-2099"

Did a little research and I hope what I found was true:

SB-2099 - Bill Requiring Federal Tax on Guns

Take a grain of truth, sprinkle with false and misleading statements, add a heaping dollop of paranoia, and what do you have?

Description: Email rumor
Circulating since: Sep. 2000
Status: Outdated / False

Looks like this has been around a while and when I searched for it on "Thomas" nothing came up.  Further research showed that the original bill was introduced in 2000 and has been to the Committee on Finance at least twice and has died.

Take this with a grain of salt, but from what I can find, it is a dead bill.
