I have some Alpen binoculars that I have been impressed with. I've seen that they have rifle scopes, but they seem awfully inexpensive. Does anyone know where Alepn gets their glass, coatings, scopes from? It's easy these days to have a U.S. address but have everything made in China.
Anyone have any experience or know of any place where there are reviews of Alpen rifle scopes? Just looking for an inexpensive rimfire scope for my .17 while waiting for my SS Variable |

Don't know much about the Alpen scopes but BSA makes a unique .17 scope.
The BSA Sweet 17 line of scopes are made specifically for 17 caliber rifles. The BSA scopes utilize a bullet drop cam (located on the elevation adjustment) instead of a hold over reticle like the Burris Ballistic Plex. It takes a little more time to compensate this way but it is just as effective. There is a noticeable optical / mechanical difference between the two as well, hence the considerable price difference. The BSA Sweet 17 scopes are a lot of fun for plinking and informal target shooting. The Burris has the edge for more serious target or low light hunting. Both are great scopes for 17 caliber rifles but they are made to serve two different markets. BSA Sweet 17 2-7x32.....$59.95 BSA Sweet 17 3-12x40 A/O.......$89.95 BSA Sweet 17 6-18x40 A/O.....$109.95 comes w/ FREE 15 piece professional boresighter (limited time only)

I saw a few Alpen rifle scopes that I would have bet money that they were Bushnell Elite 3200s. That is a guess on my part, but the resemblance side-by side was staggering.

Probably sourcing from LOW (Light Optical Works). He came from Bushnell and knows all the contacts. |

According to website, the two main guys are from Bausch & Lomb. tCP
President Tim Gardner (founder) and Vice President Tony Proper, who each held top management positions at Bausch & Lomb’s Sports Optics Division, have more than 20 years optics experience, contributing to Alpen’s widespread success" |
