pretty much narrowed it down to these two (willing to wait on Z5)
for a 30-06 and an "all around scope" should I get the Z6 2-12x50 or the Swarovski 3-12x50 professional hunter? or should I just get a Z5? thanks again, Jack |

z6 2-12x50 here. I like the little extra power and light gathering for my needs.
Can't go wrong with either one, the 1.7-10x42 or the 2-12x50. |

thanks guys!
I am leaning towards the 50 just because of the light gathering... now I just have to decide which leg to sell to get it ;-)... I wish these things went on sales or something you know! a little discount would be nice! thanks again

Myself, Im going to wait for the New Swarovski 3.5-18x44 Z5 . Man this sounds like such a great scope for all types of use. I will either mount it on my 7mm Mag Bar or my Kimber 270 WSM. The Z5 is approx 1,000 less than the Z6. It sounds like one hell of a scope and I cannot justify the 2,300 for the Z6 anyway..Its not like I will get more game with the Z6. In reality, what ever that is I could kill as many Deer/Elk with a 500.00 scope. But I like to have nice huntin equipment.

the Z6 2-12x50 on basspro is 1969.99
how much will this Z5 run? don't you think the 50mm will pull in a lot more light than the 44? also, I'm noob so forgive me, but when you have the scope mounted and everything, is the, I'm sure there is a specific word for it, but is the view the same size between the 44 v 50? or can you see more field of view with the 50? (I think that's the word, FOV) you are sorta talkin me into the Z5! please continue lol! |

Mr Ripper,
Look under Swarovski for your prices on these new scope here.http://www.swfa.com/c-2945-swarovski-z5-riflescopes.aspx It will show info for all models of the Swaro. Myself I would rather have a scope mounted lower verses a little more field of view. 50mm, 52mm, verses 44mm Objective. Its personal preference. I have the 3x10x42 American and I love it. Super clear and the Z5 should be even better Im thinking/hoping. Thats it, most of these other folks can give you more ideas than I. JF |

I see no need for an all around scope to have a 50mm objective. I'd put the Zeiss Diavari 2.5-10x42 as the best riflescope on the planet right now. To each his own.

If you go with the Sample List Z6s, try to get a 4a reticle. IMHO, they are the best for all around use.

The biggest difference between the z6 and Victory is the price. It seems Swaro just had a huge jump in cost vs the Victory. Optics wise it's so close your splitting the splitting of hairs. Head to Head, between the two, it really comes down to features, name recognition, and what works better through your eyes. Edited by mike650 - May/21/2009 at 15:16 |

I agree with Mike. The decision really comes down to whether you think the 6X zoom range and the FOV advantage on the low end of the power range of the Z6 is worth the $400 or so higher price over the Zeiss Victory Diavari. You might like the reticle selection of one better than the other. From what I've seen, the Victory has a bit of tunnel vision on the lowest power settings, whereas the Z6 has virtually no tunnel vision. I've heard that the Victory has slightly better low light performance, but I can't confirm since I have a Victory but not a Z6.
Unless you have much more discerning eyes than I do, I don't think you will be able to select one over the other based solely on raw optical performance. At least I can't. As nice is the 6X zoom range is, at current pricing, I personally couldn't justify the additional cost of the Z6 over the Victory. If you are interested in illuminated scopes, things even up a bit more to me, as I really like the illumination controls and the lit reticles of the Z6 better than Zeiss.

Absolutely! Of course, the same applies to the Zeiss Victory Diavari as well. I bought mine (2.5-10X50) off the Sample List.

Based on a comparison of ONE Z6 to ONE Victory Diavari, using blue light at about 485nm to simulate dusk, the Zeiss Victory Diavari showed a bit better contrast. I think the truth is that both scopes are "over the top" in any category you want to discuss. It is likely that the shooter, not the scope, will be the limiting factor.
I agree with Ted; the difference between the two is so trivially different that it really comes down to personal preference.

I have a brand new, never used, never mounted, Swarovski Z6 2-12X50 w/ TDS-Plex reticle. I have the receipt for the scope too. I spoke to Swarovski's customer service and they said if you the submit a copy of the receipt along with filling out the new (never filled out warranty card) that the lifetime warranty is still in place.
Send me a pm if you're interested.
