Well, I have posted the pics of the rifle before, but I had to show off the entire "Squeezer Special". This is my Marlin 1985 45/70 Guide gun. It is now topped with a Leupold 2.5x28 Scout scope. Bought it used from a friend in really good condition. Can't wait to try it out. It is my first scout scope (and the first Leupold I have owned, although I have used many).

Looks like fun to me. I've been eyeing one of those with the longer barrel for the last couple of years. Congratulations

I am a big lever action fan-- Guide guns are fun ...
I've have great success with Buffalo Bore 45/70 ammo..Probably the hardest hitting commercial ammo out there ...
Also, can the factory recoil pad- have a gunsmith ( or you could give it a whirl) replace it with a limbsaver or similar pad .You'll be glad you did.

OOOOOOHHHHH BAAAAAABY!!!!!!!......................Looking real good there! Yep! I like that one! Best wood grain I`ve ever seen coming from Marlin, especially on the fore-end part! Your all set for some shorter ranged "anything you want" thumpin!
However! I don`t see the words,,,"Squeezer Special",,, engraved anywhere!!.... ........C`mon! Get with it!....

If you are looking for the hottest 45-70 ammo, it is between Buffalo Bore and Garret Cartridges. Both deserve a thicker recoil pad. ILya |

I definitely want to pud a limbsaver on this gun. I have been shooting the 325 gr Hornady Leverution rounds at 2000 fps. I can only imagine how hard those Buffulo rounds hit. Is there any way to load them that hot by yourself?

Not a reloader myself, but I read in this month's Bear Hunter magazine about 45/70 loads one can put together that approach the same numbers as Buffalo Bore's
