James, you were right in the area of some of my old stomping grounds.  Did you happen to make it to Garlock or to Randsburg?  Those are some pretty interesting "ghost towns" that are right on 395.

Hey I been to Randsburg. Rode my dirt bike from California City to Randsburg and stopped in the little general store/ restaurant to have a sandwich. Pretty cool place.

Did you drink the Sarsaparilla?  It was really good when I was there... better than A&W root beer.

I don't think I did because I don't remember drinking it. I just remember the little street which is pretty much the whole town....

The old general stores and hardwares are totally cool.  My paternal grandfather owned and operated an old hardware store in Florida when I was growing up.

When I first moved to PA in 1990 there was a little countrystore 2 miles away and was the nearist place to gas up without going all the way into town.  I shopped there 5 years before I found out that the little stairs in the back of store lead to a full blown old fashioned hardware store upstairs full of both new and neat old stuff that had been on the shelves for YEARS!  I found an all aluminium housing B&D drill from the 60s NIB for $15 there.  It was trully like stepping thru a time warp!  WAY COOL!
