Damn tuck. Something wrong with your bears????? Maybe just a Georgia bear thing. Could be something wrong with ours. I do know that pears, apples, grapes, peanut butter, deli meats, oranges, tangerines, bread of any kind, chocolate, vanilla, road kill, gummi bears and the like do real well any place where there are bears in this state. Never tried the jelly bean thing myself, but have heard the same story from several people. Might be one of them thar "urban legends"

Trinity, Northern California, is "bear central" in this state. They eat anything and everything. In certain areas, you leave something eatable out for a few minutes unattended, consider it gone. Good bait is an empty ice chest; they'll see it and try prying it open thinking there's a feast inside.

Here are some trail cam picks from a different area of the northern lower peninsula of Michigan. The first pic shows hawks like greased bread too.

Our bear's might be odd, but I'm certain that they use anise oil up here, but they don't put it on the bait...they say that the smell makes them curious...they usually soak a rag with it, or hang the bottle.  The real trick is keeping all of the other critters out of the bait, so the bear can eat it...hence the board and rocks.

The board and rocks is a great idea. The smell of the Anise i can certainly see how that works. It is strong, and deer will often come in to investigate that smell also. I think the bears just don't care for the taste. I completely understand that, I don't care for it either.

most of the bear hunters i know just go to a butcher shop and ask for scrap meat and add things like brown sugar, maple syrup, molasses and pennant butter.
