So now that the Leapers is in good working order I want to replace it.  The leapers is a 3-9x44.  I want more magnification 12 or even 16.  I would also like larger objective.  I use rifle at night on critters and currently use the ill ret but not sure its going to be needed with a clearer scope.  Anyway the rifle is an RWS 460magnum I mostly us it for plinking but do hunt also.  Ok so variable power, maybe decent size plex for night hunting large objective, and clarity. budget about 5-600ish...

If they have any of the 6-24x50 Vortex left, I highly recommend one. http://www.swfa.com/pc-12782-2213-vortex-6-24x50-crossfire-rifle-scope.aspx
I never thought I would put something like that on an air gun, let alone the beastly Webley Patriot. I have shot half a tin through mine and it's holding up. The PA goes down to 10 yds and since the starlings are back, comes in handy.
I wasn't sure about the mil-dot. Last night I had it on the head of a coon at fifty yards at 10:00 PM. This was at the edge of my yard light. I also tried putting my Leapers 6x Bug Buster on it. It was no comparison, the Vortex was clear and an easy shot. The Leapers was not able to make a shot. There was very little reflection of ambient light with the Crossfire but the Leapers was flare city.
BTW, the coon lived to see another day.

That's weird I shot a coon last night at about 8:30.  You really seem to be impressed with the scope.  Does the optical quality compare with leupold?  Cause With the price range I have I could go higher.  But I could deffinately leave well enough alone and save some coin with the Vortex.  Sound like a good scope though..Pm sent

I will compare it tonight to my 3.5-10x50 EFR Leupold and my 6-24x44 Burris Signature. I am very impressed so far, though.
My Leapers goes down to 3 yards and the Vortex down to 10. The Vortex just blows it away and a 15 ft shot will be no problem on a wolf spider. I couldn't even focus good enough to shoot one of those arachnids with the Bug Buster.

The Bushnell is 30mm tubed and adjusts down to 25 yds. It costs almost seven times as much.
It is also a highly regarded scope among serious air gunners.

Gotta be honest though, I have never owned a bushnell anything.  I know the elite series is supposed to be really good but I do have some sort of mental thing with them..Loco
