Here's my question and lets not get to personal on this one (and yes I am going to play the what if game). What if all optics companies were going out of business but you had the choice to save one company and the company you save can only produce one scope, which scope would you choose? Now remember that this is the scope you are going to have to use for the rest of your life. I am putting a limit on the amount you can spend on the scope to be around $800 (so no you cannot save the most expensive scope). Also, you do not have to pick the scope that is at the top of the limit. Try to get the scope that you feel would be the best value. This is not a survival thread or anything else just trying to get a feel of the scope everyone cannot live without.

This is a TUFFY. Gonna have to think on it. Ok,for a start (FOR ME) it would be a 1.5-6x42 with a 30mm tube,German #4 reticle, some sort of moisture repellent on the lenses, std finger adjustable w/e adjustments, and no parallax adjustments.. Manufacturer? I'll have to think some more.

I would have to say the Burris Sig Select 4x16x44 with the plex reticle. They run about 545.00. Ive had cheaper Burris scopes (Fullfield 3x9x40mm for about 25 years and its been great, very tough, Ive dropped it on rocks with the rifle. It never lost its zero..Its old and foggy now but it was well worth the 200.00 or so I spent on it at the time. I had a Redfield 3x9x40 that was the same way, good scope for me. Now Im pretty much a Swaro guy, Love em!

There is no scope I cannot live without. Iron sights work fine for me.

If there no scopes left in the world, I will just move to Kickboxer's neighborhood. If he is guarding the streets with his iron-sighted Lott, I feel totally safe (as long as a I remember to re-plant the trees in the neighborhood with reasonable regularity).
On a more serious note, if I get to save one scope, I will pick the scope that looks like the most versatile design to me. That would be Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 with MilDot reticle and exposed tactical knobs. I can do just about any type of shooting with this scope in a pinch. ILya |

Just shooting off the cuff here, I would pick the BUSHNELL ELITE 4200 6x24x40 mil-dot. Versatile enough to cover a whole wide world of possible shooting from rimfire to the 375 mag. a proven workhorse. IMHO of course

My bail-out or save goes to Leupold. The 2.5-8x36 VX3 would get my vote as their one scope to make. Hey Monster!! Have UUUU by chance been reading or watching too much bad economic news from CNN, MS-LSD, Atlanta Urinal Constipation, NY Slimes, LA Slimes, San Fran Chronicles and planning you`re next scope??................

+1. With that power range you handle up close and longer distance, if you were limited to 1 scope. |

I agree with Big Squeeze if I had the $$$ I would have this scope on all my rifles.

I prefer the variables for hunting but my first choice(s) are over budget. This one's $1.00 under budget and gets my vote. Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 http://www.swfa.com/pc-5754-259-zeiss-45-14x44-conquest-rifle-scope.aspx Edited by mike650 - April/29/2009 at 17:27 |

Thats a tough one I really feel the need for illumination ever since I did some night coyote hunting a couple of months ago and I've chased an arrow shot cougar through the brush at night too so probably a Trijicon TA442 1.5x with the amber triangle. I think if you had any posibility of encountering night time dangerous game or hostile agressors you would have to have an illuminated optic. A 4x would be nice but the even the 1.5 is just a little over the price limit.
