This is starting to annoy me, I bought a pair to talley one piece mounts that ended up being med instead of low and they had a spall scratch on the top of the ring...

I ignored all that and started to mount the scope, a few months after receiving the mounts.  I can get 7 screws in but the last one only screws in half way...   should I force it in?

First off DON'T force it.  Is the problem with one particular screw or just the one hole? If it's the hole,it just needs to have the proper tap run through it. I don't have Talley's so am not sure if the proper tap would be a 6-48 or 8-40.

Try swapping the offending screw with one of the others to determine if it is the screw or the rings. Like 300 S&W  says don't force it. Once you determine if it is the rings or screw contact Talley. Talley has a good reputation for customer service.

Folks ain't got a sense of humor no more. They don't laugh they just get sore.

Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow
Now the rules have changed again.

Get a bottoming tap and some Blaster(tm) that will at least let you check to see if it is threaded.  If not then it is gunsmith time before you break the tap.
