Nice vid, Mike.
They are actually as closely related to camels as they are to antelope.

I have spent time in Oregon hunting Elk and Mule deer,.......... and pronghorn are everywhere. I spent some time in a place called Christmas Valley Oregon it is mostly farm land and prairie country. Pronghorn were in almost every field. I bet they are a lot of fun to hunt.

We had several hundred triple tags left over last year. I plan to get a few tags this year, and maybe a few backup tags.

i lived in wyoming for the first 21 years of my life and for most of them i never could understand why in the world everybody (residents included) had to draw out for a tag. i mean for hells sake their is like a million antelope in wyoming and only like what maybe 200000 residents of the state. i myself never did see the reason to have such a system. i also didnt really like the taste of antelope, it did make pretty good jerky, but that was about it. the meat is very and i mean very sagey.

Looney, if you get a tag for region 4 in Montana (that would be the district I do my antelope hunting in), there are land owners that would just about pay you to shoot the antelope. In region 4 you also have massive amounts of BLM property you can hunt. Getting on private property in Montana for antelope is easy. In fact, I have never been told no when it come to antelope. Now deer and elk is another story.

Lewistown, MT is where I hunt antelope. Region 4 is north central Montana. Here is a link the regulations, and it has a map of the hunting regions and districts.
http://fwp.mt.gov/content/getItem.aspx?id=37313 and a link for region 4 map for antelope. http://fwp.mt.gov/content/getItem.aspx?id=37327 I hunt 481 the most due to the large amount of public land and block management land there. 430 I hunt because I know several land owners in that area, and they do block management as well. |

John,
I'm not sure about the advantages of trying to join a party tag drawing in MT if one of the applicants is a non-resident. I asked FWP last year about that and was told that the entire party would be stuck in the 10% non-resident quota. In our case, that was 3 out of 4. So Mr. Oregon was on his own! As it was, both our party tag and his tag were awarded and we even were given the option of culling additional does. I love the area we hunt in (a 500 district) but it is tricky with the way land ownership is around there. The adjacent landowner doesn't allow any hunting and the antelope know it. They love to hang out under his pivots and watch the trucks go by. Me, I get out and walk because there's always a few little herds moving around there. For those who don't know, farther east in MT has had some problems with blue tongue die offs. |
