What scope would you select for a 1970 vintage Winchester Model 70 .30-06, intended for general use to include deer hunting? Cost not an issue.

I would go with a Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 and never look back. You don't want a scope with a huge ocular with a 90 degree bolt handle.

i just talked with zeiss and the 2.5x10x42mm victory has the same size ocular as the scope you suggested, 1.6 inches or 40mm look at the catalog http://www.zeiss.com/C12568CF00206298/EmbedTitelIntern/WEB-ZEISS_Hunting_Catalog/$File/WEB-ZEISS_Hunting_Catalog.pdf leupold: http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/scopes/vx-3-riflescopes/vx-3-3-5-10x40mm/ ive got a fast focus scope on my m70 with low rings and the bolt doesnt hit my scope. Your right. They are identical. I had a 700 that needed a 3-9x40 conquest and I thought the ocular got in the way with low rings so I went medium. Didn't realize the conquest was actually 1mm larger then their 30mm scopes.

the only thing i will mention is that with those low rings, i cannot get my factory scope cover on the objective of my scope all the way on. the barrel keeps them from going on all the way probably because the rifle is a .375H&H.

Schmidt & Bender since cost is no issue,if that scopes not in stock pick up the Z6.US optics,if none of the mentioned scopes are in stock, settle for a Weaver Classic Extreme 2.5-10x56 illuminated dot side focus 30mm tube.SWFA has them in stock. |

Nice gun.. Hey I'd go Conquest. Which one would depend on where you would be using it.

Nothing wrong with a classic rifle like that. You said gun would be used for deer hunting among other things. What kind of deer hunting? Woods, prairie, still hunting, blind?

I hunt woodland/pastures. In the pastures at last light deer step out at between 200-400 yards, so that's the max it would ever be used for. Thanks for the replies.

If your gun is in the original stock I would get something that fits the style a little bit, it's not hard to do. the Leupolds ,Zeiss,Kahles, fill this bill. but by no means skimp on quality
