I bought a Kahles 3x9x42 Helia CL side focus and after comparing it to my Elite 4200 I am sending it back. Surprisingly  the optical clarity was not up to par as my 4200. The next closest scope I can come up with is the Sightron 3.5 x10x44 S111 with side focus and mil dot reticle.
Does anyone have one of these and how do it compare to an Elite 4200.

Thanks
Charlie

That's kind of surprising, considering Kahles' reputation, but it does speak well for the quality of Bushnell's upper end.

Which model Elite did you compare it to?
Also, did you have a chance to do a low-light comparison?

I compared it to a 6x24x40 Elite 4200. They were both mounted on guns aimed at the side of an air conditioner 50 yard away very late in the evening. The side of the AC had an about an eight inch square data sticker with various size print that can be read with good optics. The light in my garage was turned off so I had no artificial light bouncing around in the scope. I had both scopes set on 9X and rested in sand bags. I also took out my Sightron 3x9x36 AO and it was even with my 4200 and clearer than the kahles. As far as brightness they were all equal, just the Kahles did seem to be out of focus, this is after adjusting the ocular and parllax repeatedly.

All scopes of the same make and model are not equal. Some are made on Mondays, even in Austria. Also, sometimes our eyesight doesn't match up well with the glass on some scopes (or binoculars). If you are happy with Bushnell 4200's, why not another one?

I'd look at the Zeiss Conquest before the Sightron.

If you like the 4200 you would REALLY like the 6500!

I've heard really good things about the Sighrtron SIII from Koshkin "repeatable clicks, & best glass coming out of Japan".  I have considered buying one myself but I'm thinking if you like your Bushnell 4200 why not a Bushnell 6500. I guess that to me there are other factors that I find more important than how sharp the glass is----- like balistic reticles, target knobs that are repeatable, Illuminated reticles like the Trijicon Accupoints, how much internal adjustment the scope has, and how much eye relief the scope has and rugged reliability. I guess that is why I am happy with the Leupolds I have cause Im not trying to take a photo through it Im trying to get on target and accurately shoot something so rugged reliablity weighs heavily on the side of a Leupold FXIII 6x42 or a Mk 4.

really why is that, they both use the same glass, only the 6.5x erector and the 30mm tube makes them different, i think the lens coatings are the same also.

course maybe im on glue too!Bucky

I do not have access to the Bushnell factory, so I cannot state with authority that they are exactly the same scopes re glass, coating etc. I have put them next to one another, and will say I believe the the 6500 is clearly superior. But it is rather like debating a VX II vs VX III. The 4-30x50 6500 is a great value as the real world price is under $700.
