I thought that's what it was, but didn't want to hog the spotlight after my stupid joke earlier!
I have a K-31 and a long interest in Swiss rifles.
An interesting distinction of the Vetterli rifle is that the cartridge overall length is critical to the reliable feeding from the tubular magazine. This is because each cartridge acts as a stop for the one behind it, as it sets on the carrier/follower.

OK, here is another sorry it is so dark .This is the way I found it lying in the dirt while on a deer hunt in the 80's location might help you? the Chocolate Mountain range in California they border Cali and Arizona.

try a 348 Winchester high speed. found two of these in a place I thought no man has gone before? I could see the scenario some lucky or poor soul saw a great big buck and got the buckfever and jacked all of his shells out with out firing a shot .... well maybe one. good going Ronk! shall we try some more? |
