Just wanted to hear some opinions on this. I know different makes of scopes will look different is some way, shape, or form. But....have you ever looked through a particular scope that claims to be FMC....but your instinct and/or experience had left you scratching your head?

The question is....Of all the scopes that claim to be FMC, do you feel that one may not be FMC? In other words...do you feel that there is any "false advertisement" going on that may be hidden in the rifle scope market?

Just a tad! if you stick with the larger name brands, and about mid level and up you most certainly are getting multi coated lenses. on some of the cheaper ones ,some are only coated on one surface or maybe only the two exterior lenses. On the upper end most all are fully coated or multi coated all lenses all surfacas!

Not all coating formulas are the same. The types and properties of coating vary greatly. Many are for special purpose that may or may not be to your advantage. UV, Light transmission, color correction, water repellent just to sort out a few. The qualities of these coatings are the factors that make the better scopes better. You can coat a lens with bacon lard and it is coated. It may even be somewhat water repellent. You probably couldn't see shi_. Advertising is to promote a product. |

Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow Now the rules have changed again. |

Yeah, I was sort of thinking along those lines. For example, the quality of glass on a scale of 1-10....10 being best. Lets say you have glass that is a 10 and one that's a 7. If you put multi coat on the 10, and full multi coat on the 7, could the clarity/optical quality on the 10 be surpassed then by the 7...?
I hope that I'm making some sense...lol. |

Fully multi coating optics like Leupold and Sightron have names like Revcoat 7 layer. The 4200 is fully multi coated and the 3200 is multi coated. You can always check the brands website and they would let you know how the lenses rate.
