Is the big question for NJ hunters.
Keep sending emails and call the Governor as he can still veto the bill. He stopped the Bear hunt. The antis are calling and lying that it would open hunting to all areas. It will not, just private land and the WMA's and not State and County parks as the antis are trying to say. Use this or anything you would like: Bill A1669 / S802 Sunday Bow Hunting Dear Governor Corzine: The above legislation now awaits your signature and its passage is extremely important to me. As a conservationist I am committed to responsible stewardship of our state’s natural resources and Sunday Bow Hunting helps in this endeavor. The bill will ensure better manage New Jersey’s deer overpopulation. Every lifeless roadside deer is the result of a car accident, an accident that caused financial loss and perhaps personal injury or death. The bill will help reduce agriculture losses due to deer feeding currently estimated to be 20% per year, reduce residential landscape damage and the transmission of Lyme disease. Sunday bow hunting will help to boost New Jersey’s hunting license revenue, aid the state’s ailing economy by drawing non-resident dollars, repeal an antiquated blue law and bring New Jersey in line with 43 states that currently allow bow hunting on Sundays. The bill restricts bow hunting to private property and Wildlife Management Areas only. WMAs were originally purchased entirely from the sale of hunting and fishing licenses and operational funding is still provided entirely by hunters and anglers. Sunday bow only amounts to 14 days per year but is of great value to people currently obligated to family and work responsibilities. Governor Corzine, I am one of 650,000 New Jerseyans who hunt, fish and vote. I ask that you sign the Sunday Bow hunting bill into law. |

This issue comes up every year in Virginia, and gets shot down every time. I think we will end up with sunday hunting someday, but not soon.

It has passed in NC for this comming season. My biggest concern is for church goers being run over by the low class road riders that already give "true hunters" a bad name. There is always the crowd that thinks that hunting is their right and they go where ever and when ever they want. Hunting is a privilege, and privileges can be revoked. This can be a good oppertunity to begin to balance the population. But if we don't police ourselves, it could end up giving the anti's more to work with.
While you are rallying support for this bill, be sure to caution your supporters to watch how they represent. If they don't, it could be the worst thing that could ever happen.
Good Luck!

In South Africa we have a season which stretches over two or three months. Hunting is permitted seven days a week, with a daily bag limited. Sunday hunting is left to the individual and his spiritual convictions. Most farmers will not permit hunting on Sundays due to their convictions.
I personally have no issues with this. What is good on a Sat is good on a Sunday, providing you do not neglect your religion in the process.

The whole concept of no Sunday hunting is kind of strange to me. We (Roman Catholics) consider Sunday a day of rest, relaxation and reflection. An afternoon of hunting with friends and family, or alone, all dovetail very nicely into that concept. I also think such regulations are grossly unfair to the poor slob that has to work weekdays and some Saturdays. |

I dont think it's a big deal what day of the week you hunt. As long as the Buck are plenty and the hunting good. Never seen a Lion leave a buck alone because it's Sunday. Regards Chris

I never, under any circumstances, hunt on Sunday. This has always been the practice in my family.
Thus, even though I agree in principle that Sunday is not a day for hunting, I am very happy that this is a decision that I and my family made for ourselves. I do not believe that the Government should in any way involved in deciding this question for anyone. |

Must not be any Mennonites or Seventh day adventist where you live. They would stop that. Or stop hunting on Sat. then why not Wed also. If a man wants to hunt and can live with themselves as to what day it is then do it.

If it passed in NC maybe our state will be next. I think that the game wardens don't want to have to work 7 days a week.

My God does not care what day of the week I hunt, I am thankful for all he gives me and treat the outdoors with great respect.

The game warden still has to work Sunday even if no hunting is allowed that day. Poachers don't care what day it is. I think it is a personal choice as to what day you hunt. The government should not say what days you can or can't. I am sure these laws are a result of religious views and laws from 100 years ago. |

HMMMMM............This is a strange concept to me. Georgia is what many consider to be the HEART of the Bible Belt. Yet I can't remember ever being told that hunting, or fishing on Sunday wasn't legal. Sounds too much like the antis, are using religious reasons to thwart an outdoor activity.

I think it was a little over 10 years ago this subject was brought up in the Virginia Supreme Courts. A guy called the Va Dept of Game to tell them where he would be quail hunting on Sunday with the intent of being arrested so that he might take this matter to the courts. The final verdict was that "even the animals deserve a day of rest and Sunday is a good day for it".
Even though I would not hunt on Sunday if it were legal it is clear to me that the courts are not really so concerned about the animals getting a day of rest. The state sets the seasons and the duck hunters in Virginia really get slighted because that season is determined by federal mandate which includes Sundays. In other words, the federal govt allows it and includes Sundays as part of a restrictive season to hunt ducks and geese but the state does not.
There is of course nothing fair about this but the state has the right to set the hunting restrictions within it's borders. There is obviously an ancient motive behind all of this which assumes that a hunter should be in church on Sunday morning and not in the woods. Even though you might be able to drag a man to church you can't drag his heart there and it surely isn't the government's responsibility to do so.
Any Virginians care to get intentionally arrested so that we can bring this subject up again? It is more than irritating to me when Christians have a desire to mandate obedience to the faith when God himself makes it clear that loving and serving Him is a personal choice. We all have the opportunity to make choices which have consequenses to them but what I am seeing here recently is that government will be getting more into making choices for us rather than getting out of our business. Isn't this the land of the free?

Your point is well taken, but remember not so long ago they were trying to respect the officers choice to attend Church. Now with so much fishing regulation they end up working Sundays anyway. And now they try to fire anyone who would prefer Church over work. I would agree that it should be individual choice over hunting Sunday, But I would not impose my "want" on another and make them have to work on Sunday. This is one of those things that is going to take some time to settle in.
The game warden still has to work Sunday even if no hunting is allowed that day. Poachers don't care what day it is.
That is another problem in its self. Now in NC they have opened the crossbow to everyone. That is going to be abused I'm sure. More low life poachers will have them and try to shoot deer with spot light. It will be more difficult for the law to keep a handle on things now. And whats worse is there will surley be many more wounded and lost trophy deer by these creatons.
It is evidence of how desprate they are to effect population density. They're not so concerned about accountability as they are population reduction.
