I've read several topics and a hundred of posts. We're all looking for the same damn thing... lightest recoil, flatest long range capabilities, primarily for deer and varmints, readily available ammo, and reliability, and probably with the shortest barrel length to get the job handled. The discussions ALL moved from the .300 calibers down into the high .200's. The .270's and .260's, along with the 7mm's all seem to be in the running as far as my tally. My consenus is most of you are very favorable of the .260's. It maintains all of the above demands except ammo availability. I'm a limited budget guy. If I was to go the .260 route what brand? Ruger Stainless? Kimber? Remington? What's your call, now that I've got the caliber whitled down?

FWIW, I have both a Remington 700 and a Kimber Montana in other calibers and like them both very much but I think that unless I get a great deal on something else my next rifle will be a 7mm-08 Browning X-Bolt in stainless.

Mark,
No, the Zeiss is $499.95 and you can get a Kimber Montana for approximately $1000.00 - $1100.00 or so.

Savage makes a quality firearms. Not only that they are know for being really accurate rifles. Plus you get the accutrigger which is a nice feature top it with a Bushnell 3200 or 4200 (depending on your budget) and you got yourself a nice set-up.
