You have to look long and hard for a Factory 7mm,that isn't 9" or 9" and modest change.

I would go for a 1 in 9 or a 1 in 8.  My Hart barreled 280AI has a 1 in 8 because I wanted to shoot the 160 gr Accubond as my main bullet.  However it shoots the 140's and 150's equally well.

With today's tendency to make long bearing surface monometal bullets like the TSX or the E-Tip then a tighter twist might be what you want.  If you get a 1 in 10 and discover that it won't shoot the 150 gr E-Tip or the 160 gr TSX as well as you would like, then you have no options.

Thanks everyone for your response on the 280AI twist question.  I'll be shooting mostly 140/150gr, occasionally 175gr.  Sounds like 9, or 10 twist will be okay.
Thanks again.

I shoot a bit and with an open mind, less qualm of running the gamut. Excellence interests me a great deal and noone does it better than McMillan.

Long ago,I cyphered that one can enthrall a Critter, via greater than subtle color matrix inundations. The curiousity subdues them and a guy can saunter right up to them and bang 10yd broadsides. Sorta like cheatin'.

I shot alotta blue for years, but it was too easy,so I mixed things up to add a challenge.

Bang some iron sights too,to keep sh*t fair.

Variety IS the spice of life.

Tools interest me more than eyecandy, though I'll wax nostalgic now and again,if only in fairness. Wood makes great fuel for the fireplace, but there isn't a lesser handle material.

I can suffer black and grey, but much prefer gelcoat over anyone's paint..

In retrospect,I guess I gotta side with my long term affliction with Pink,as an inside favorite.................

Here's my only 1-10" .284",which do in fact happen to be a #6 contoured 22" Lilja,chambered 7-08. S/A 700,Badger M4,QRW's,3.5-10X M1 LR. Dan makes a fair tube,though I prefer others.

Couldn't formulate a reason not to go 1-9"....................(hint)

i would go with a 1 in 10 myself, more than likely your going to shoot bullets in weights from 140-160gr anyway. the 1:9 is for 150gr bullets and up only

The general consensus I've seen has been for 1 in 9.  Here is one bbl makers recommendation on twist rates:http://www.eabco.com/TwistRate.htm

I'm having a 280 Ackley Improved built.  26" Douglas Air Gauge barrel.  My question is, What twist?  9 or 10?
