I read that the Nikon Mildot has hash marks between dots for better ranging. Since I can't find one to look through before buying, could someone verify this?
Thanks |

Sorry to bring this up again so late!
I'd really like to know about this too -do the Nikons really have 'half mildot' lines between the mildots? Also, at what magnification are the mildots true? Thanks. Edited by Guesty |

Welcome to The OT!!
By "half mil dot lines", do you mean hash marks? If so, no there are not. http://www.swfa.com/pc-6977-222-new-nikon-25-10x44-tactical- 30mm-riflescope.aspx
Pic of mil dot in link above.
I think the power setting your looking for is 10x on the 2.5-10 Ni Tac., my friend. Edited by cheaptrick |

The TMR and the Mil Dot are different reticles. Mil Dots and TMR are used at the highest magnification with exception of the first focal plane scope that can be used at any magnification. Edited by Urimaginaryfrnd |

If you want half-mil hashmarks, IOR's MP8 reticle is a pretty good way to go.

Is that like the old one? They (Nikon) got jammed up over that reticle. Right? I don't remember the story. |

Thanks for the info guys.
It looks like Nikon no longer offer the Gen2 style mildot, and have changed to the standard type. That's a shame as the Gen2 looks more useful to me. |

HI Everyone I'm window shopping for a new tactical scope for hunting day and night. Would this Nikon and simular scopes be better than A Elcan m145 specter for hunting? Which is best in the dark. Didn't mean to steal the thread. This is a excellent discussion about an excellent product. Its is a refreshing pleasure to read such intellegent replys from obviously very experienced marksman. If it would be appropriote to start a new thread with this question simply state it so. Thanks DEFCON 1 |

DEFCON, I haven't ever fooled with Elcans. Some other members here may have.
My advise would be for you to check out Snipers Hide for the low down on those units. Those some of those guys are real deal operators that hang out there and I'm sure could answer your Elcan queries, my friend.

You may luck up on an older unit for sale (used) with the Gen II reticle. I'd probably just settle with the standard Mil Dot, if it were me. |

I have not had the opportunity to check out the new specter models, but I have owned the older tritium illuminated model for over ten years. It has a 3.4 x magnification, and a huge field of view. Forgive me I don't have all the specs.handy. I believe the exit pupil is about 8mm which is plenty of transferred light for moonlight yote hunting. The glass is clear edge to edge and in my humble opinion outstanding. The thing is built like a tank and weighs about as much. I have yet to have any problems with it.I just sent my M/O into SFWA for a 2.5-10x44 Nikon Tactical and will try to get all the specs together for a review comparing the two. It is kinda apples and oranges though. Look for a new post in the tactical section some time in the future. Good luck M223 |
