I have to say, I am learning a ton on this forum. Thanks in advance for your replies.

I am looking for 8x42 binoculars for hunting mostly. I have a few things in mind that I need:

- waterproof and rugged
- good low light performance
- $100-250

I have looked at the Nikon Monarch ATBs and they were nice but just outside my price range. I also looked at some Pentax DCF HS that were pretty nice and with in my price range. I haven't handled the Vortex Diamondbacks in person but they look great on paper.

What would you gurus suggest?

Thanks!

You need to be focusing (pun intended) on Porro prism binoculars

Bushnell Legends
Leupold Cascades
Pentax PCF WP II

These will be far better than anything you will find in a roof prism within your stated budget.
What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

Thanks for the input everyone. I was about to pull the trigger on the Bushnell Legends when I found a pair of Nikon Monarch ATB 8x42 well inside my price range so I picked them up. I hope I made the right choice.

I recently sold my pair--decent glass for the money--but I am looking to upgrade.  I was hard on mine and they held up well.
