Hey
Ive been looking at the SWFA samplelist in my search for a good scope for varmint night hunting. There are many that Id like to have, Bushnell 2400 4-16x50 is one of them. Any good?Bucky
But I was also interested in Nikon Monarch 4x16x50 until I saw how many "factory refurbished"  Monarcs are for sale on the swfa samplelist. That must be indication of reliability/quality problems - or what? Whacko

We buy all their returns from all over the US once a year so when you look at it that way it really isn't all that bad considering how many have been sold! The Nikon and the Bushnell are both GREAT scopes for the money for what you are wanting to do! You could literally flip a coin to choose between the two. Either way you will not be dissapointed.

i enjoy both the 4200 and the monarch, in a coin flip you may end up saying to your self, ok best of 3 then best of 5 then best of 7 etc. they are that close!!

I have the 4200 4-16x40 and I dont think 50 mm does that much more for you as you only gain about one more power in low light - with the 40 you are at 6x max in low light and with the 50 you are at 7x so I'd save the hundred bucks and put it into better rings.  My other thought is that the Trijicon Accupoint scopes illuminated reticles are a big advantage. Also worth mention is the new series of Nikons designed specifically for varmit hunting

Does the lack of Bushnells for sale on the Samplelist mean that they sell so very few compared to the Nikon Monarch? Whacko

No that means it has been a while since we bought the bushnells we don't always buy EVERYTHING they have. We just knew we could sell the Monarchs so we sucked ALL of them up before anyone else could.  Whacko

Nikon has a huge share of the scope market. When your looking at buying a rifle scope this is what the salesperson at any of the big sport shops would push to sell.Nikon is good but I would pick the 4200.

Roger that. Now the Bushnell 4200 v.s. 6500. Is the 6500 worth the extra 2-300$ or so?

The Bushnell 4200,  6-24x50 also has a 30mm tube, so where would the difference be between that one and a 6500 scope?
