I recently acquired a very nice condition Weatherby 3.5 X 14 scope it's marked either supreme or premier. Problem is the view has a yellow tint. It was thought it needed nitrogen filled but not sure. Anyone have a suggestion who I can send it to. It is a very nice period scope.

I'd call Weatherby. They haven't offered optics for years and they won't repair it. But I bet they know where to send an old Weatherby scope for repair. Good luck.

Wel I called Weatherby and they recommended ABO USA Inc in Miami FL. Anyone heard or dealt with them? Interestingly when I called them they said the yellow/amber tinting may be normal for thay scope.

Yea,I've heard of them but haven't dealt with them or know anyone who has. I guess it's possible that the lenses are tinted that way. Maybe you could contact ABO first to see if they know about the tint and if they repair those scopes. If the tint isn't normal and they do repair them maybe test the scope for leakage yourself by submerging it in lukewarm water and watch for bubble streams.

IOR made some scopes a while back with yellow glass in them. They claim they were a special run and are collectors items. Don't know that I would want one, but whatever I guess.

The yelllow tint helps in lower light, fog and snow. It works as a contrast filter and makes brights brihter and darks darker. Some of the old lenses used a mineral base in the glass that while it made the glass purer and clear it turns things yellow after long time and is mildy radio active.

I've got an amber colored lens cover on my K2.5 Weaver and on dark overcast days it does seem to give the image more contrast.
