I am looking at getting a Zeiss Conquest 3.5 X 10. Any real difference in the 44 vice 50 objective. They seem so close in size that I am surprised they make both of these. I did notice that there is a slight difference in eye relief between the two.

If you are doing a lot of low light or night hunting I would get the 50, otherwise if you are mostly a day hunting it won't make a noticeable difference.

I don't have a 50mm Conquest and I am no optics expert.........but my Conquest 4.5-14x44 stacks up very well compared to my 50mm Swarovski and 56mm Kahles "as far as low light deer hunting". I would not say the resolution is as good but just to set my binoculars down and pop one.......the Conquest works remarkably well !! Just saying......I doubt there's much difference.......that 44mm works dang good !! I am going to buy another one I think......just for the lower mounting and target turrets. I don't feel like there is enough low light performance loss for "me" to worry about !! |

I try to never run 50mm scopes on anything but target rifles. On a hunting rifle they add unwanted bulk and make a rifle feel topheavy when shooting offhand. There's also been some discussion about heavier scopes being affected more by the forces of recoil. A 44mm Zeiss will have excellent low light qualities. Mine does. Also a 1" scope with 50mm obj just doesn't look right to me. Reminds me of 24" spinners on an 83' Buick.

A 50mm objective definitely serves its purpose in hunting. I have a Kahles 42mm and 50mm on my hunting rigs and both have their uses. If you are hunting in low light or night, go ahead and get the 50mm, definitely won't hurt ya.

You may be right, but I agree with Horsemany on this one. I have 2 3.5-10x44's and love 'em. Nothing else will ever be needed for hunting. In my opinion, the only thing you gain with a 50mm objective is more bulk, higher rings, and more $$$ that is not necessary. In fact, a 40mm objective is all I feel is necessary for big game hunting.

To each his own, I guess......I contemplated a conquest 4.5X14X44 before I bought the 50mm Kahles, but just love the scope. I am sure the 44mm will work, but I would advise looking at and looking through both if at all possible before making a decision.

I had the 4.5-14X44 and just sold it, great scope. I do have a 50mm+ on a hunting gun, but it is a weapon that is used in low light frequently.

I tried to get a 4.5-14x44, but somebody else beat me to it, so I got the 50 instead. I'm very happy with it,and I don't think 6mm makes that big of a difference, but I punch paper and bang steel with mine.

I have a pair of Zeiss Conquest scopes, a 3.5-10x44 and 4.5-14x50. In really low light, (probably illegal hunting type of low light) the 50mm scope is clearer.
