I have been looking at the Buckmaster 6-18x40 and Monarch 5.5-16.5x44 for my 700VLS 223.I will be mostly target shooting but some coyote and maybe prairie dogs. The Buckmaster has a target dot reticle and Monarch a nikoplex. I like them both and can't decide between them. Would like to here pros and cons on both. I am new to this type of shooting, always shot my 30-06 for deer hunting a few times a year.  Target shooting looks to be a lot of fun and would like to start off right..

The Monarch is far superior in every category.

I have pretty much decided on one of the Nikons. The local sporting goods has the Monarch for less than $300.00 so I am leaning towards that one but it has nikoplex reticle and the Buckmaster can be purchased with a target dot and side focus. I don't know if these features are important or not. They don't have one to look at and don't know when they will be in. Too many options!

The Monarch is definitely worth the extra money.

The optics of the Monarch weigh out the side focus and target dot of the Buckmaster

You should not disregard the Bushnell Elite scopes, which are equivalent to the Nikon Monarch series.
