They run for about the same price, so what do you think is the better scope? I'm kinda stuck between the two so if someone could push me towards one and give me facts why, then i will be really thankful

I've heard that the VX-3 has glass like the VX-7, if that's true it will be good glass but I'd still want to see it side by side with a Conquest in low light before committing.

I think it's going to be real close, but I'll take the conquest by a nose, this is based on "pure" optical quality only.

I like the Conquest! It has a great reticle and eye relief. I have not compared directly to the VX III, but I would buy another Conquest before I would buy a VX III!

+1 on the great etched reticles and lots of eye relief of the Conquest. But then again I haven't had a new VX-3 in my hands to look at or thru. Externally they seem to be identical to the VX-III according to the picture of a 2.5-8x36 I looked at on SWFA. Some of the new ones are pictured now. Tough call... but when I get my taxes back here I'm gonna put my money on a Zeiss 2.5-8x32... Edited by bagderRed - February/01/2009 at 13:31 |

Conquest glass will be better (at least from the VX's I've seen), Customer Service is great, it is an all-around good scope for the money.
The Zeiss, that is. |

After playing with the VX3 for a while and owning 2 Conquests here's my take on it. The Conquest will have slightly better glass. The Leupold will be better in every other way I measure scopes. Weight, size, reticle choices, price, durability etc. No flaming here. This is just my opinion. An example of price would be the 4.5-14x44 Conquest vs 4.5-14x40 Leupold. The Conquest is listed on SWFA for $800. The VX3 from SWFA is $579. Both duplex reticles. I own both of these scopes (mine is VXIII) and I do not feel the Conquest is $220 better than a VX3.

All kidding aside, the Conquest versus the VX-III threads used to get down right "unChristian" a while back.

The cost is closer when you take the price of the new leupold with the AO on it like the conquest....
I am going back and forth on these......
Do I order the new Leupold or Conquest both 4.5x14? I like my conquest scopes but really don't like the length of one of my elites.... The Leupold is just over an inch shorter and lighter. The cost is almost exactly the same?
This scope if for a Sako Quad in .17 mach 2...... which currently has a 6x24 bausch & lomb sitting on it which is almost 17" long... the shorter Leupold is calling...

I think the VX-3 is different from VX-III and the former was release only recently... Hence the question.

The new VX3 and the VXIII are so similar they can both be used for comparison to a Conquest. With a VX3 and VXIII in each hand you have to look close to tell the difference. There's very little difference in broad daylight optically between the two.
