I've been reading and learning alot on this website for quite some time. After careful research and consideration I've decided on a Ziess conquest for my A-bolt 30-06. I think I want something along the lines of a 3-9x50mm because most of my shots will be less than 300 yds and I want something good at low light. I will be buying one this weekend. But my question is what is the difference between the 3-9x50 conquest ($550) and the 3.5-10x50 conquest ($700) besides the extra $150 bucks. Is the glass different, reticle, or am I missing something besides the extra 1x magnification?

One thought I have is that I don't see the prices you quoted on the SWFA website. That would imply to me that you are looking at a competitor site. I could be wrong.
However, there are many reasons for a price differential and power is one of them. There could be differences in "age", one might be a newer release than another... kind of like last month's gasoline... which would show more price variation. However, for a complete analysis of pricing differentials, I suggest you contact the fine, experienced and helpful staff of SWFA. Since this IS their business, they can give you far more details on difference in price between models of the same brand of scope.

I see that Bear Baisin ask $ 549 for the Conquest 3-9x50, and $699 for the 3,5-10x50
Both with German #4 reticle.
I do not know what causes the difference in price, but it has to do with mechanical issues, that´s for sertain.
My Kimber Montana 84M in 308 Win has the Conquest 3,5-10x50.
A good scope that suit me perfect the way I hunt with this rifle.

I don't think seawolf was encouraging anyone to shop elsewhere but rather just trying to understand the price differential between the two Conquest configurations.

It seems like most of the time when these things happen it's because the person didn't realize that opticstalk.com (rather than, say, forums.swfa.com) is affiliated with SWFA. Yes, everyone should be familiar with the rules, but how often do people sign up for something or install software, etc. and actually read the agreements. Waded through a Microsoft or Google EULA lately?
I suggest that these rules be added and prominently displayed in the Forum Rules and Policies page that new users are required to accept before registering (http://www.opticstalk.com/registration_rules.asp?FID=0). |

Reticles will can make a differnce in price. FWIW, I have a 3.5x10x44 on a 300 Weatherby Mag & 4.5-14x50 on a 204 Ruger. Both with Z-Plex. They're both very clear. The 3-9 will have a larger FOV than the 3.5-10, depending on the terrain your're in that may be a better trade off than the extra power.

Prices from SWFA show the 3-9x50 matte z-plex at $599.99, and 3.5-10x44 matte z-plex at $699.99, why the $100 difference? |
