NP3 will definitely take care of any rust concerns. It's not an exact match for SS, but it might be close. It has more of a grayish silver (light graphite) color that I think looks good, but I'm not sure it would match Remingtons SS finish. You might also look at SS colored Cerakote. It would be cheaper, provide almost as much rust resistance, and might be a closer match to SS. Another option is Armoloy, which is a hard chrome finish. Applied to a blasted surface and left matte, it's very close to matte SS. |

That's some good ideas there Ted. I almost (ok I did) forget about Armoloy. I remember guys I worked with getting their S&W revolvers done up with that finish before S&W offered lots of their models in SS. I remember that finish looked real nice and for all arguments sake, looked just like brushed/satin SS.

Yep, I have a rifle done up in Armoloy, and it does look like brushed SS, maybe just a shade off, but close.

Well it was not a "drop in" completely. Had to get the dremel out and take some off the inside at the rear of the trigger to get the action all the way back. It is not a free floating barrel so I will have to dremel some out of the barrel channel. Then a bedding of the chamber/recoil lug/action and then it will be right.
But this is what it looks like

Bob,
That is a beautiful rifle. It was also a tight fit for my rifle. I may have a gunsmith check out the bedding. |

Hey ar, I'm just glad I got one as good as you and Ted's!
The thing about this stock is that it does not have the pillars or the action reinforcement that the HS Precision stock had and seemed a little loose in the recoil lug area (bad mojo for accuracy)
and it is wood and compressible. So to maintain the accuracy potential this stock needs to have pillars installed, the chamber/action/tang areas glass bedded and the barrel free floated.
I do all this myself and save the $150.00 or so a smith would charge. It is not easy and a little scary but there is also a lot of satisfaction in doing it yourself. I have never installed pillars before but that is probably going to be the easiest part.
The pillars will be around the action screws between the action and the bottom metal and allow you to torque it down to a higher inch pound without compressing the stock. The bedding will keep the stock from bearing on the action and moving. The free floating will keep any moisture or temperature variation effects on the stock from putting variable forces on your barrel or action.
Ted, do you do your own stock work?
Doing some searches and came across this

Hi, Bob. Yes, I do my own stock work. I can walk you through pillar bedding over the phone or in multiple PMs if you wish and are apprehensive about it. Shoot me a PM and/or I'll give you my phone #. It's really not all that hard if you're handy with tools and
fundamentally understand the goal, but it's more than I feel like
typing. LOL! The secret to any good bedding job, pillar or otherwise,
is in the preparation. It also requires plenty of patience, the right
tools, and knowing where the bedding epoxy needs to go and not go for a
stress-free job.
You can buy pre-made pillars from Score High Gunsmithing or Brownells that are already radiused to fit the bottom of the action. If you do, just buy pillars for the Rem 700, as the Mato action is the same diameter. |

I think you guys got nicer samples than I did! I'm a sucker for lots of fiddleback, and yours has more contrasting figure overall. I do like the amber-red color of mine though; it looks more like English walnut than Claro. |

For all those who took advantage of this deal...congratulations(and your welcome!)......I won't mount mine until I am sure about what kind of bedding system I will use......tempted to go with a full length glass job with aluminum pillar blocks for absolute rigidity.....That is what Art Alphin uses on his A-squae rifles....either way some of these stocks rivaled and in some cases beat some custom stocks from Winchester,Cooper,CZ and dare I say a Merkel........certainly on par with the best....If they had a higher gloss hand rubbed finish they could pass for an authentic dakota.........I'm sure thay have to be gone by now at the very least the best ones are........CARPE DIEM

Want to use the synthetic stock if possible to build a 257 Wby.....have a new barrell off a MarkV in stainless......another caliber I don't nedd but would love to have....................................

Latest one I got for a friend's rifle
To me this is even better than mine because it is so classic with most of the burl in the butt and just good looking wood up through the forearm.
Looks like they're all good!

I received a barrelled action in 358 STA and wouldn't you know it it will fit one of the Mato stocks.....seems any 700 action will fit these....just need to inlet for the safety........Mato uses the wing safety..........I will use the synthetic stock for this beast......some bedding blocks and a recoil pad.....these synthetic stocks didn't come with the grip cap or recoil pad........sure glad I bought one of these for $99 and 3 of the wood stocks.........I really hope a Maarkv will fit as well....REALLY want to build a 257 WBY

Will these wood Mato stocks fit any other brand rifles like Remington 700 SA or Winchester Classic LA?
Thanks, Sam
