Up at Deer Camp they'll roost in the trees at night. As soon as it starts getting dark they'll fly/glide off a hill into on of the surrounding trees.

Once you try it you will not go back.  I was introduced to it by a friend who had been turkey hunting for 15+ years.   Learned a lot and still learning a lot.  In west river SD it is more work than deer hunting, but oh the rush!!  Sounds like you got the work of knowing their patterns etc. down so you are ahead in the game.  Enjoy it!

Turkey hunting re-ignited my somewhat faltering interest in hunting a few years ago, and is something my grandson dearly loves to do with me. For a creature that has a reputation for being dumb as a stump, they are incredibly wary and difficult in the woods. Kind of like hunting a whitetail that can fly.

Additionally, the spring seasons allow those of us who have been cabin-fevered for months to get out during a spectacular time of the year.

We are fortunate here in North Idaho to be allowed six per year, but that thrill of having a gobbler answer your call just doesn't diminish!

Take it up and have fun!

I thought the same thing.  I had not bow hunted, everything was shotgun in IA or rifle in SD.  The first year I went, the area was new to me and I like seeing new places.  The land was very rough.  Lots of elevation changes along with thick wooded draws.  We started the scouting and walking and climbing.  I began to wonder why would I ever want to do this, then it happened.  We say a flock (tech term is a "rafter" of turkeys, good for bar room bet) and got in front of them.  Them continued to move toward us, toms in the back.  They covered us up feeding along, some breeding, but the hens were so close, 7-10 yards, made my heart just pound.  Never did get a turkey that day, but that left me with a fever.  I only hope you can experience it too.

A friend of mine at work offerred to take me turkey hunting this spring.  I turned it down because I've never had any really great  interest in it, but this thread has got me to think about reconsidering his offer...Hmmmm.....

I was exactly the same way.  Never really wanted to go... once I did, I loved it.
Go for it man, once you see that gobbler strut, you're hooked.

If you don't go, you are only cheating yourself, especially if offered to take you along.
