spotted a listing for  the redesigned VX-III's today

all the same magnifications carried over ( but did not list 1.75-6)

Highlighted items were:

Extended twilight lens system
Second generation argon/krypton gas
diamondcoat 2 external lens coating
twin spring erector system
Edge blackened lens reduce diffusion

Scopes look exactly the same and are dimensionally unchanged

As long as there is not a significant price increase I will still consider the Leupold's. they are still the best looking, and the performance is good enough to my eyes.....

Agreed, Even though I have some better optics, I still will find room for a vx3 in my safe.

Look at the Leupold custom shop form on their site....I think it has the new scope prices as they are listing a VX3 now (vs. VX-III).  It looks like they are going to be about $30 more than the old models if I saw correctly.

Sales reps were told the change "would be much more drastic than the change from Vari-X to VX".  Guess not.

I'm sure the gun rag whores will be talking these up to get in-line for their free scopes, hunting trips, "writers seminars" and all the other free sh*tt that we consumers end up paying for at the register.

I'll bet they'll be almost more of the same, but with a higher price tag. I'm not saying nothing has changed. I'm just saying, I'll bet it won't be worth the price difference. We'll see what happens.

Sounds a little like their vx-7 setup which would be quite a jump vs. the varix-III to original vx-3 jump.

I received a catalog today with the VX-3's listed.  The prices were very similar to the VX-111's.  It reads like they have the same glass as the VX-7.  If this is true then they are very much improved and will be a much better value than the VX-111.  I liked what I read.  In fact I'd prefer it to the VX-7 because I don't care for their 'pop-up' turrets.  I'm going to call Leupold and ask them point blank about the glass.

Good man!!  Sounds too good to be true!! Leupold actually makes an improvement and then they DO NOT triple the cost of the product so that they make a 900% profit!!!!.......Hard to believe!!!!

( but we like to buy American......because I get so weary of carrying around this heavy sack of gold and silver!!! It weighs a ton!!  It's just killing my arms!!! )

At the Dallas Safari Show this past weekend the rep confirmed that the vx3 was upgraded with many of the vx7 features such as the same glass which is what I suspected. He also said there was going to be around a 6% increase in price. There were brochures on site to backup what I was told. Sounds like good news to me.

On the Custom Shop site the VX 3 3.5-10X40 is $499.  I think the VX III was about $460.  Not bad.
