My wife bought me a Nikon Monarch for Xmas. It is a 4-16x42. It will be mounted on a Savage Model 12FV. I'm looking at the Warne Maxima Rings and Bases. What Height ring will I need. I was trying to get them ordered tonight and their office is closed so I cant get any info from them and their website doesn't seem to have dimensional drawings.

The other rings I was kind of considering were the Burris extreme rings and bases, so I anyone could recommend a ring height for them in case I change my mind, I would certainly appreciate it.

Meduim Rings work for a 42mm scope you really dont need high rings until you get to 50mm.

So, low are too low for a 42mm objective? I assume this is dependent on what make of ring as well?

Low rings for a 42 mm bell depends on the rifle.  I could put them on my Model 70, but needed the mediums for proper cheek weld.  I'd suggest the mediums just to be safe.

I ordered medium height rings. I think they will be about right. I'll know in a few days.

I use medium Warne's for a 40mm scope and Warne base, should be perfect for you.

I would go medium as well. It won't be to high & it's nice to be able to get at the ejection port & cycle the bolt without problems.
