I bought some berger 115 gr Vlds for my son's 243. whats a good starting load for H1000 or H4831sc or varget or H414? I can take to 100grain loads and drop the charge but I would rather see if any of you guys have loaded for this or have a manual with something published about a load close to this.

Did you try shooting an email to Walt Berger? I know he uses quickload to figure these, but it would kind of give you a starting point. I just got load data for my wsm.

1:9 will never do it, you would need at the very least a 1:8 and probably more like a 1:7 to make it work

I think I'm still going to give it the "old college try" I'm hoping they will work out to 100 yards and group okay as they are for a 10 year old.

Pyro is right on. Berger lists the following:
115 Gr VLD - recommended twist of 1:7
105 Gr VLD - recommended twist of 1:8
95 Gr VLD - recommended twist of 1:9

What kind of effect would having too fast of a twist rate have? I'm thinking about loading 130 gr. bergers in a .270. They recommend 1 in 11. I have 1 in 10. Any ill effects? I worry about this for 110 gr. ttsx, or 100 v-max bullets as well. My old man shot some 90 gr. hollowpoints out of a .270 once, and said they didn't fly for #$%^.

you should have a 1:10 trigger, thats perfect for the weights that the 6.8 win shoots, 130-160gr and thats why the 90gr bullets shot like poopie! |

I would still like to shoot some 100gr. or maybe 110. Am I just screwed? A 110 gr. v-max looks like fun at about 35-3600 fps.

I don't understand everyone touting the 7mm because of bullet selection then. What good is it to be able to buy bullets in a range from 100gr. to 180gr. if your rifle is only going to shoot 140's to 160's well any way.

all of remingtons m7 and m700 rifles chambered in any 7mm round are 1:9 which is going to get you into everything from 150 to 175gr which excluding the 7-08 is the weight of bullets you would wanna shoot any way. a 7mm doesnt need to shoot a 100gr bullet, even in a 7-08. now i will say that the charts arent always right, i had the same twist in my .280 and it shoots 140gr bullets just fine. i havent found the need to shoot anything lighter in it so i havent tried.

Hey BD, did you ever get those Berger's loaded up? I'm still interested to see how you came out on those.

No I have not yet. I'm going to try to load them up this weekend and maybe shoot them in a week or two. I was going to load tham last weekend but loaded 200, 22-250's and some 300winmags up.I'm itching to give them a test run with some H1000 pushing them. I'll keep you posted on how it works out.

I thought I'd be able to run them well into the lands for a 150 gr. in my .270 wsm, and still fit in the mag. After loading some 140 Hdy SST's I'm not so confident. My max magazine length let them just touch the lands, which is where they shot best.

What kind of twist rate do you have in the .300. I may have to try some in mine.

1 n 10.
It is a fairly stout load but no signs leads me to it being to stout. I'll PM you the specs.
