Any of you on here have one of them there Rem. VTR's.  Curious as to how loud that internal muzzle brake is compared to a conventional brake.

Don't have one but I sure have the itch to buy one in 223.  I'm curious as to how they shoot.

just remember the xmark trigger cannot be properky adjusted due to the nasty epoxy remington uses on them, so if you wanna make the trigger pull lighter buy an aftermarket unit

Hey pyro, you should try spraying some safety solvent on that epoxy. We use some stuff made by CRC in our shop. It's just labeled CRC industrial safety solvent, and degreaser. You kind of have to be careful what you spray it on because it seems to eat anything plastic that I spray it on. Might eat that epoxy.

My gunsmith agrees with pyro, he wants nothing to do with the X-Mark trigger due to that ridiculous epoxy the factory uses. It's crazy, Remington sells you an adjustable trigger then glues it so it's next to impossible to adjustThumbs Down

its not impossible to adjust, its just not a safe way to adjust a trigger. you can do it, but you dont really gain a lot, and you compromise safety so my advice is to replace it. now the old "j lock" style trigger is another story, they are wonderful to adjust, i adjusted mine  to a very crisp 4.5lbs no perceived creep no over travel just a smooth pull. in my eyes the sear engagement adjustment is imperative to safety and without the ability to adjust it i say either dont mess with it or buy a timney, or a jewell or a rifle basix etc.

We've gone over this trigger issue before
http://www.opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=12983&PN=1
Roy Finn posted a link with detailed instructions on adjusting this trigger. I don't see where a gunsmith should have an issue with it because of the epoxy. Scratch it off and put penetrating oil on it. Or heat it, no big deal.

FWIW, my smith is a real custom shop and is pretty good, he builds custom rifles, 1911's, etc, The X-Mark was one of the selling points for me when buying a new 700 so I was real surprised when he recommend that I toss the X-Mark and replace it with a Rifle BasixShocked I was so surprised that I started a thread here asking for advice and most members here agreed with my smith.

The overtravel and sear engagement are epoxied in place and need heat to undue them but the weight of pull just needs a 1/16 allen wrench.  Just adjusted mine down to a very comfortable weight.
