I just picked up some Conetrol mounts (DapTar STS) for my Sako 75. I've read the literature a couple of times, but it's somewhat vague and confusing. I was wondering if any of the resident experts here have messed with these mounts. If so, do you have any suggestions or "tricks" to pass along? It's probably not as difficult as it appears, but I want to go slow and not mess up (for example, try reading written instructions detailing how to tie a shoe). Anyway, any input would be welcomed. Thanks all and MERRY CHRISTMAS.

I've used Conetrol mounts quite a bit. The only "tricks" to installing them that I would pass along is first, do not mix the 3 pieces of each ring with the other ring. They are fitted and ground together as a set. Secondly, they have orientation notches on the underside of the top caps. It's imperative that you correctly align the top cap.
Installation of Conetrol rings can be a bit tricky, but if you take your time and pay close attention to what you're doing, they aren't too hard to install. I would first loosely place the ring halves over the scope tube, then slide the rings so the mount stud halves are well separated so the top cap will fit loosely onto the dovetails at the top of each ring half. Then move the rings to the desired position on the tube, fit them into the hole in the tops of the bases, carefully and gently rotate the scope to the proper reticle orientation while pressing down on the ring caps with your fingers to prevent them from coming loose from the ring dovetails. Then tighten the cone screws down slowly and evenly from side to side to seat the rings. Once the ring halves are squeezed together, they will securely cling to the scope tube. Before you install the ring studs into the bases, it's important that you completely unscrew the cone screws so that the tips of the screws aren't intruding into the inside of the stud holes on the bases, preventing the ring studs from easily sliding into the bases.
If you need further assistance, send me a PM with your specific questions and I'll try to help you as best I can.
