Hello to all on OT..been lurking awhile and decided to join up.
I am looking for a new scope for my .270 I hunt WT deer about 99.5% of the time. I don't think I will shoot less than 250 yards 95% of the time. I would like an all around scope that I can use hunting WT and perhaps one day an elk hunt.
I have read a bunch of stuff about the Leupy vx3 on here. Are they not a good hunting scope? I see that I can find them on sale bcs of the newer versions about to be released.
Of the Leupold, I like the 4.5-14x50 in the 30mm tube.
I like the Nikon Monarch.
I have been looking at the Zeiss Conquest but I don't know much about it.
lastly, would you take the 30mm tube over the 1 inch??
sorry for all the questions, it's been 15 years since I bought a scope

the vx3 is not a bad scope, the concensus among this forum is that leupold prices dont match the products performance level at there current retail prices. the nikon monarch is one of my faves i have two of them on my deer rifles they are nice, the zeiss conquest is also a nice scope, i feel when its darker out the zeiss is better than the other two scopes you mentioned. as far as 30mm goes horse a piece you pay more for 30mm and it wont enhance the performance of the scope. any of the three scopes you mentioned would server you well, how much do you want to spend?? that could add some other options depending on how much you want to spend

So for you pay, you don't get that much scope?
Is 525 a good price for that scope? Looking around I found a 2.5-10x50 Nikon for about 425. How do these compare?

I know where you stand on the subject, but it hard for a first time reader to comprehend.

3x9's will generally cost less and also be able to handle about 95% of all the hunting situations you will come across, if you need more thats fine, 4x14 will work too.

Zeiss Conquest 2.5-8x32 for $350 or second choice would be Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40 for $250.

Remington's Rugers and Winchesters are OK if you have to go budget but there is better. I have built 4 customs on Mauser actions and found the Lother Walther barrel shoots nice but you have to go through the hassle of building. I get a consistant 1/2" at 100 yds. ( sometimes touching ) with a 270 win. I go through lots of brass and select the best, reload my own ammo. For long range and I were going to choose 1 rifle already built, it would be a Kimber Classic Select 270 Win. It is a nice rifle, well built and shoots fine. Warne Maxima rings and base. In addition you need some nice tuned reloads with premium brass (it is important) like Nosler Custom and bullets like Nosler Accubond or Sierra GameKing. If all is done well you can reach out and touch nicely. I have a 400 yard range on my yard where I live and shoot a lot. Most of my deer shots are long also. Trigger has to be light and you pull it like you don't know when it is going to fire.
