I agree with the Ted, the Leupold is a nice compact scope, but it can't match the Zeiss optically.

Get the Zeiss.  I have the VXIII you're asking about and it's a nice little scope, but it's not near as nice as my Conquests.

Just curious.........if it were going on a rimfire and the Leupold has an AO ........would you still go with a Conquest? I am going to buy a .22 wmr soon and these would be the scopes I would be looking in to...........I think the Leupold is an efr or something like that !

I would go with the Leupold for a rimfire IF it had A/O, but they don't make a 2.5-8X36 with A/O.  They make a VX-II 3-9X33 with A/O though.  It would make a fine rimfire scope.

However, since you said .22WMR, which has double the effective range of a .22LR, I wouldn't worry so much about the need for 50 yd parallax settings and would therefore still go with the Zeiss -- unless you are looking for a special reticle or finish that only Leupod offers.

If you buy a new Leupold ( and maybe even an old one ) Leupold will change parallax for $15 I believe---if you wanted a rimfire-range parallax...   That is an option if you happened to want a better Leupold that had no AO.....

I understand lots of folks change the parallax on their own scopes by twisting the objective lens and changing the position slightly....first I think you need to unscrew the retaining ring ( which is a seperate annular ring on some scopes---but not all) ---and then they re-adjust the lens position by giving the lens housing a little bit of a turn....but I don't know if I would wanna do it unless some expert showed me how......

I wonder if Leupold would change a parallax on a Zeiss Conquest?  Flame

I have both - Both adjust accurately and hold zero.  The Leo is heavier and stronger appearing and I will guess it is the more rugged of the pair.  The Zeiss has better optics and this is noticible at distances over 300 yards. Leopold has a more forgiving eye position - which can be important in the field when you must mount the rifle rapidly under hurried conditions. The bottom line for me is both are good but I like the Zeiss better.

Outside of being less money. How would a Monarch 2-8 compare with these? I'm looking for a scope with this power range to put on a remington 673.  thanks

I also have a Monarch (see previous post on Zeiss and Leo) - but it is the older 3 - 9 power. I got it on sale about 2 years ago before Nikon upgraded the line. My comments here apply to that older scope.

The Monarch has good optics, probably the equal of the Loe. Its construction is not as rugged as the Leo but it "feels" a little more rugged than the Zeiss. Obviously these are very subjective absed upon nothing but pure opinion. One day my rifle tipped over in the  floor gun rack and landed on its side. This was a slide down the wall fall not even worth checking with the Leo. It knocked the POI off about 3 feet at 100 yards. I believe it was the scope internals that changed and not the mount.

My Zeiss Conquest and Leo both adjust precisely. One click is 1/4" at 100 yards every time! The Nikon is not accurate in adjustments and "clicks" are not always 1/4" and are not consistent. The eye relief and position sensitivity are better than the Zeiss but not as good as the Leo.

Its easy to say one scope is better than another and people who like optics generally want the absolute perfect optics. I'm one of those. But the reality is that unless you are a military sharpshooter all of these scopes will meet your hunting or under 300 yard target needs. I would rate them in this order:

Zeiss
Leo
Nikon

But that also needs to be modified by the note that ALL of them will do the job and do it well!
