Other than one model has the parallax adjustments on the end (Monarch UCC) and the other on the side (Side Focus) is there any major differences between the two in terms of reliability, repeatability and clarity? The reason I ask is from time-to-time I see Monarch UCC scopes pop up for sale and some are good buys (some aren't). I'm looking at the 4-16, 5.5-16 and the 6.5-20, 5-20 and 6-24 power range.
Just curious.
Thx

I have the 5.5-16 and I love it as a hunting scope. I have the AO set on 100yards and it works great out to 250yards and in as close as 25 or 30 yards before it needs to be focused. If you get a deal on one from the sample list I would jump on it. as for the side focus they are the same as reliability.
I like the AO adjustment myself on a hunting scope but a tactical scope like a Super Sniper I like rear focus.
I hope this helps. I'm sure others will give you better info.

Dad, the side focus units you mention are the NEW Monarch's. The AO versions are the old Monarchs. The Monarch got upgraded a few years ago and the AO scopes are left over.
As BD mentioned, the AO scopes are pretty darn good and will be virtually the same optically as the new SF models. I have had both scopes and can't tell the differance between the two's glass.
The 5.5x UCC Brandon owns is a sweet heart of a scope.
Feature wise, the new Monarch is the better deal with a 4x erector and 4" fixed eye relief.
I guess to you "rightys" the side focus is an enhancement, but us retard "lefty's" liked the old AO better.
You may have seen the Nikon 3-9x "Primos" deal talked about around here.
SWFA has a SMOKIN great deal on a Nikon Primos, which is a relabled old Monarch, if you need a 3-9x and a BDC reticle....and who doesn't, right?

Thanks to both of you. I have a monarch UCC 6.5-20x44 and I reallly like it. Occasionally, I'll see one of the UCCmodels on ebay and here on the sample list and was just curious whether to get the new (SF) model or look for the old UCC version.
I presume the same applies to the Buckmasters as well??
Thanks again

I kinda' figured this might sound confusing. But basically, like the new Monarch series, how does the new side focus Buckmasters series compare to the non side focus (parllax adjustments on the front of the scope) Buckmasters.
I've never owned a Buckmaster so I can only compare them in a store and thats not really a good way to do it. But, like the Monarchs, these too show up at some good prices from time to time.

Gotcha. No changes on Buckmasters like the Monarch's.
Same same, GI.
BM's did have a coating upgrade 4 years ago or so, but no external features, IIRC.
