Fellows, it doesn't seem fair - I had to work today while you fellows get to hunt, or at least talk about it. (: ))

thats kinda what i was thinking, a heavy rifle recoils less and the rifles weight plus the scope and bases and rings must be taken into account for the total weight,

what caliber of rifle are we talking about anyway?

Ditto

....bullets and sling too.

A little clarification. .270 caliber. The reason for my question is fear of over stressing a scope by choosing one that is too heavy in comparison to the rifle. I don't want to shorten the life of the scope. I do tend to over analyze things a bit.  I won't shoot past 300 yards anyway so all I need is about a 4 power scope. I'm looking at the new Conquest fixed 4 or low power variable.

a .270 is hardly a heavy hitter as long as you buy a good quality scope you wont have any issues unless you drop it of a cliff or have a horse roll over it. a zeiss conquest is a fine example of a "quality" scope you wont have any issues with that one, 2.5x8 might not be a bad choice either

Those 150 grain SST's are lethal on deer too.  Just ask the one I drilled last Monday.  Oh....I forgot, you can't ask, as it's already dead.    Big Grin
