I bought a leupold 3.5-10x50 for my sako hunter. I have sako medium rings I can't get the rings close enough together for the scope to fit. What are my options? |

Sell the Opti Locs and get some Conetrol, Talleys, Leupolds, anything!!
I hated the Opti Locs!! Over priced, too tall, soft hex screws, etc. (Sorry about that.)
I didnt have any problems mounting a scope w/ the Opti's though. My Sako 75 SS had a 3.5-10x44mm Conquest.
So the Loopie won't fit?? |

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

The problem is the back ring has lug so it can only go foward up against the lug the front ring is all the way back on the dovetail so the space between is 1/4" to long. Do the leupold ring mount closer or are they thiner? I have to order through the mail so I would like to know first and not have the to send them back. |

Louie -
I have a .308 sako hunter using Warne quick detach rings mounting a Vari-X III 2.5x8x36 (not a VX-III, but I bet the dimensions are close). I also have a .270 sako finnbear using the same ring model mounting a Vari-X III 3.5x10x40. Both have lots of adjustment (front to rear) room.
You didn't mention what your action length is, but I bet a set of Warne or Leuy QD rings (made by Warne I've heard) might work. A phone call or e-mail to either vendor could prove useful.
Good luck and enjoy that fine rifle.

Get rid of the Leupold and get something with a longer tube length
(mounting surface). I don't have that problem anymore since I
don't have any more Leupolds except one, the new LPS 3.5-14. The
bushnell 4200's are real nice for ring spacing as are the Burris
Signatures; both of which have more ring mounting surface than the
Leupold you speak of.

I beleive if you look at the medium rings you;ll find that they are too low for the 50mm objective scope. I have a M995 in a 7mmSTW and used original Sako intergrated rings, they seem to be the best built rings for their guns. They are thin and extremely strong.

You could replace your bases and rings all together. Then get this quick release base and extension ring set up. It will allow you to mount that scope if you're just needing about another half inch. |
