Hi all, its been a long time since I've posted on here. I need a new scope for my .308 Win, and am debating between the Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10X44, or the Kahles CL 3-10X50. I can buy a "new in the box, with warranty card" Conquest off of my friend for $500. The CL will cost about $300+  more. Zeiss has a "transferable lifetime warranty", while Kahles has a "limited lifetime warranty." I believe that the Kahles warranty is for the original owner only, but I'm not positive. Is the Kahles CL that much better of a scope? Is Zeiss' "customer service department" good and fair to deal with, if need be ? All replies welcome!

Welcome back, BB!

My solo experience with Zeiss North America CS dept. was exceptionally good. No worries there. I don't recall ever reading or hearing of a negative experience either.

I do have to admit that the Kahles is a better scope, but I have a hard time justifying 300 more for one. That decision can only be made by you. I have been hearing not great things about the cs after Legacy took over importing them. Tough call man. Good luck. I say Zeiss.

Thanks for the responses guys! I think I'm going with the Conquest. Now, would a matte Conquest look alright on a stainless steel action/barrel with stainless bases/rings ? Or should I sell my stainless bases/rings and go with matte?

I'd prefer matte on matte.
Stainless rings on a black matte scope tube looks a little too "Rick James" for me. Wink

Good one, LOL!
Matte rings with a matte scope looks far better to me, too. A stainless finish scope looks good with stainless rings, though.
Rick James, hahahahaha...............

Silver/stainless rings look good on a matte scope and stainless rifle.

A 50mm or larger silver scope for hunting, now that's a little too bling-bling for me.

Jim Zumbo shoots a synthetic stock stainless Remington 700 with a  matt black Swaro and stainless rings. IMHO the rings should match the scope's color as much as possible.

I bought the Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10X44, and mounted it on my .308 Win. I sighted it in today, and I gotta say, this scope is the clearest, brightest HUNTING scope I have ever owned. Plus, the model 700 with Win. brass, CCI 200 primer, 44.3 gr. of Varget, 165 gr. Sierra Game King jumped .100, gave me a 3 shot group just a shade outside of a .25 cent piece. I realize that this isn't even close to BR standards, but it will work fine for whitetails out to 300 yards.

I had that very scope (silver) on a .300 Win Mag Sako.
Really is a good set up, isn't it?

I am very happy with it. I was going to buy a Bushnell Elite 4200 for this weapon, but I couldn't pass up the deal I got on the Zeiss. I only have 3 Leupolds left and I would like to sell the VXII 6-18X40mm. I am keeping the Mark IV LR/T 8.5-25X50mm, and the Vari-X II Compact 2-7X36? I think it is a 36mm objective.

Save your money, if you already have the bases and rings, I see no need to change them.  This combo looks fine to me.

I have owned both. The conquest 3.5-10x50 is a great scope but not the scope that the Kahles CL 3.5-10x50 is. I purchased both of these scopes from SWFA. Check out there prices. Also check the sample list. www.samplelist.com. It is owned by SWFA.
