I came across a scope the other day that I didn't recognize. The symbol on the side was a gold crosshair over a purpurlish bird.
I'll try and get some pics up. Any idea on what company it belongs to? |

Someone gave Leupold the bird, a purple one. Remove the front flip up cap ring to find a gold ring.

Yes, there are several warnings about Chinese "Leupolds". The Leupold web page has a warning about it. It is mainly with the Mark IV (the expensive Leupolds). You're better off the get the scope from SWFA....if not, it might be as real as pro wrestling
**Hope that was what you were asking**

That's a strange bird indeed there. It does favor a Leupold. It doesn't appear to be a Leupold though as the bird would be an L. Some obscure brand that was trying to infringe on a trademark would be my guess.

Apparently an optical company in China bought the trademark from the Chinese government for "Leupold". It is my understanding that any Chinese company can buy a (any) "Chinese" trademark for as little as $15,000 US. Leupold/Oregon is trting to sue and protect their trademark but is not having much luck, to date, from what I heard. China, despite having signed the WTO Agreement, does not enforce the laws of international trade.
I worked on a Chinese plant build and start-up project for 5 years and saw violations of patents and trademarks routinely. The PRC agrees to protect Intellectual Property but routinely does not do so.
