Friday the 31st of October I was at my deer lease in central Texas and I decided to do a low light comparison of a couple of different scopes. I had seven other hunters with me to help with the comparison. We were about two hours after sunset and we had about an eighth of a moon. Not many clouds and an open field behind the camphouse. The nearest tree line is about 300 yards. I told my buddies that I had bought this new European scope and I wanted them to compare it to my Swaro 6-18-50. I told them it was a Meopta Meostar (4-12-40)and they had never heard of it ( one said it sounded Chinese!!). Both scopes were placed on 6 power.
I told them to look thru each scope and try to locate one of the many goats that are run on the property. Some said that the Swaro will win hands down. I told them that the Meopta was not cheap and was a "new" euro scope. I told them to try and give me their honest opinion.........Meopta was voted the best by all 7 hunters.
I am not saying that the Meopta is a better scope, but at half the cost....it is Damn good.
I took an 8 point late the next evening. Last seconds of "legal" light. The scope could get you in trouble with the game warden if you are not careful.
If you ever try one, there is a chance you could like it...alot.......mark

Good to here, I have the same exact scope, but it hasn't seen field use yet.

Hmmm, the Meopta had a 40mm vs. a Swaro with a 50mm objective. Sounds like the Meopta is better. Which model Swaro was it and what reticle does the Meopta have? Was the reticle easy to see and is it etched?

If it's the 6-18x50 it's an AV.

Some scopes don't utilize the full objective at minimum magnification, and 6x is the minimum magnification for the Swaro. Measure the exit pupil diameter at 6x. If it is 8.3 mm then it is using the full objective at 6x because 50mm/6 = 8.3 mm. If the exit pupil diameter is less than 8.3 mm, then it is not using the full objective at 6x and you can determine how much is being utilized by multiplying the measured exit pupil diameter times the magnification. For example, if the exit pupil diameter is only 7 mm at 6x, then it is only utilizing 42 mm of the 50 mm objective lens.

This may be a double post so bear with me..
The Swaro was an American in 6-18-50. The reticle on the Meopta is a number 4. I ordered another one for a rem 260, I hope it works as well as my 7mm08 rig(great cartridge for deer). I went hunting this weekend and the Meopta performed wonderful. Another low light kill on a doe. The 4-12-40 is perfect for my setups, but the 3-10-50 would work as well. A friend has a 3-12-56 with the illuminated dot. It is a little heavier but a VERY nice scope. It is very dominate in low light situations. Good hunting...mark
