I recently been trying to track down info on the Leupold European rifle scopes and haven't been able to find anything on it.  What do you all think of of this line of riflescopes for Michigan whitetail?   What does the Leupold European 3-9x40 or the 3-9x50 compare to?

thanks

The scopes you should look at if you go Leupold are the VX III and the ones with Boone and Crocket reticle would be a nice scope but the reticle only works for know holdover at the highest power.  Generally the forum's favorites are Nikon Team Primos, The Bushnell 4200 series, Zeiss if you can spend a tad more. If you are looking to go less expensive consider a Sightron S1 3-9x40

Anyone know how the Leuopld European fits into the VX scale?  Is it a VX II with a 30mm tube (just a guess)???  **anyone who sells a scope should have to list (honestly) where it fits in their 'food chain'.**

The ones I have seen ,seem to be about vx-11 quality. As SAKO75 stated, the tube size is 30mm, but the internals are standard as in all their scopes.

I thought that it was nothing more than a 30mm redesigned tube with VX-II optics. For the money, I would totally pass it up and move on to the VX-III in a split second.  I would not give the Euro line a second look.....

From my point of view the Leupold  European is just a gimmick.
If they really wanted to go the Eoropean way, they should marked one in 1,5-6x42 with the German #4 reticle.
That is the all time European classic.
1,5 on moving game and close stands, and the x6 will cover most any needs one will have for regular big game hunting.
Likewise the 42mm objective gather a lot of light for dusk/dawn hunting, as well in dark timbers without beeing to big and obstructive.

The European sights I have tried in this configuration (S&B and Zeiss) usually lack on eye relief, which Leupold dont.
They are also heavyer than Leupold and more expencive.
So in by book, a European model in 1,5-6x42 with VXIII mec.  and generous eye relief would be a winner.

According to Leupold the optics for the VXII and the European are the same. The VXIII has better optics.
