I just got a Ruger Super RedHawk 44mag for Christmas. I will be using this gun to hunt whitetail and hogs. I was just wondering if anyone had any exp. with the Simmons Pro Hunter scopes? Can the Simmons scope withstand the recoil of my gun? Thanks |

I bought a Simmons Handgun scope once and as soon as I touched it I could tell it wouldn't hold up. Recoil in a .44Mag SRH with a scope is not going to be extreme (I shoot a .454 Casull SRH with scope and it's not that bad) because of the weight, but it takes a good scope to hold up. I like Burris, but Leupold is good, too. A 2X with 20mm objective is good to 50 yds or so but is limited in low light. I like the Burris 2-7X32 and keep it on about 3X. It's a lot more money than the Simmons, but you'll only have to buy one. If that's too much money, shoot open sights.

mwyates, Thanks for the reply I have been thinking about getting a Leupold. But was doing a search and came across the Simmons and noticed it was cheap. I guess you get what you pay for. I am going to check out the Burris and Leupold a little more. Thanks Again |

I have a Leupold 2X on a 44 Mag and a Burris 2X (with posi lock) on a 35 Rem (both Contenders) and they both work fine out to 100 yards, my self-imposed max for deer hunting with them.
