First there was chaos...
Then there was light and people started wondering whether they could see just a little more detail on that distant hill. Then scopes were created as temptation for people, so that they would always have doubts: "I wonder if with a bigger scope I could see farther and better". Then night came and people were confused: "Who turned off the freaking light? I can't see sh*t, so I step into it all the freaking time!" Since people could not see sh*t anyway, the put down their scopes, wiped the dog crap off their feet and turned on their computers in search of advice. There were many forums on the web where people talked about optics, but they could not tell a good scope from the dog crap they just wiped off their feet. After much deliberation people decided that if there is a golden ring on the scope and a large letter L on its side, then it must be good and they were content. Then the light was turned off again, and the braver ones among the people, said: "Wait a second, the whole gold ring crap is pretty and all, but I still can't see sh*t except for that glow-in-the-dark gold ring". But the many internet experts who said that all you need is a gold ring told them: "you are not focusing your scopes right. If you only knew how to focus your scope with a gold ring you'd have x-ray vision". The brave ones were still not convinced. They said: "I have been trying to focus this bloody thing for days using your instructions, but I still can't see sh*t until I step into it". So they turned on their computers again and looked for the higher truth to no avail. Eventually the Almighty took mercy upon them and inspired a certain Texas entrepreneur to create OpticsTalk, so that the faithful ones could see and the other ones... well, let's just say they have to wipe their feet a lot. Dale Clifford, Roy Finn, Mike McDonald, Mike Yates were all charter members here.
Optics Talk was a lot slower traffic wise, but still offered SERIOUSLY GOOD optics advise.
I knew the first time I came on here that this place was very, very special.
There was what I refer to as "The Crash". Something crashed (server?) and all our post counts got washed away.
Pyro and Dolphin had the idea to start the Firearm and Reloading forums, which have been a smashing success.
Lots of good people have come through here and I have had the privledge of meeting and knowing a few of them.
4 years I've been here damn near everyday....I'm getting misty now. You'll have to excuse me......

Folks ain't got a sense of humor no more. They don't laugh they just get sore.
Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow Now the rules have changed again. |
