I've been researching scopes for a new Magnum Research semi-auto 17 HMR, which will be used to hunt rabbit and squirrel in the West. I've got Leupolds and Nikons on my centerfires and have been happy with them.
I see that Bushnell has a scope that "is designed" for the 17 HMR (and other rimfire cartridges). It's their Banner 2.5-10x36.
What about it is designed for the 17 HMR? Frankly, a scope this economical scares me a bit. Are there some great 17 HMR features on this scope that make sense to purchase it over a more expensive scopez?
Thanks!

I suspect that it's just a basic rimfire scope that's set to be parallax free at 50 yards. For what you want to use it for I'd suggest either the Weaver RV7 or RV9. Both are very good quality rimfire scopes. A big step up from the Chinese made Banners.

The Banner is an AO scope. It is to give an big upgrade to buyers of the BSA sweet 17. Where the BSA has problems with repeatability and consistency the Banner is much better and has the Ballistic Turret. It is only a 36mm so it is a Little dimmer than the 40mm-50mm that some folks are more accustomed too. The Banner also comes with a blank turret that can be marked for your own ammunition. I have found this scope to be robust for its price range. and a huge step up mechanically from the BSA sweet 17. The information included in the packaging stated that there are many other caps calibrated for other calibers. I have never encountered any of them. I have 1 on a .17HMR and another on a 10/22 Ruger. Both have been good to this point. The only drawback is the sparseness of the turret markings.
