Just got my Montana in a .260 and am looking at the vx3 2.5-8X36, Swaro 3X9x36 and 3x10x42 American. I would like to keep my weight down but stil have all the low level light shooting time available. Who wouldn't right? I guess my main question to those that have used them is am I going to gain that much shooting time by going with the larger objective Swaro? Would it be worth it to put that big of scope on a relatively light rifle? Thank you.

My Montana 30 06 is  topped off with a Swaro PH 2.5-10x42, I'm happy with the set up.

..............An objective difference of only 6mm between a 36mm and a 42mm, should not make any difference in your low lite shooting time. It won`t make a difference between success or failure either.

For that rifle, I`d prefer the lighter, lower profiled 36mm objective.

I own both of those two Swaro scopes and both are very nice optically, with excellent light transmission.  I too would go with the smaller, lower profile 3-9X36 scope.

WELCOME TO THE OT....

Wow , all great selections... Stainless Montana ..If you like having a matching scope-the VX III can be had in stainless ,,Other than that , all are winners ( but the VX III costs half , with excellent optics) I have both the Swaro and the VX-III, and will say the Swaro does have a small edge in brightness , just not sure if it's a $500 edge..your call .

I put a Swaro 3-9 X 36 AV on my Kimber 84M. Great set-up.

Given the OPTION between Swarovski and Leupold, which means if I have the funds and the desire to make the choice between those two, I would ALWAYS choose the Swarovski for a hunting rifle. There is not really even a choice there. Say what one will about "closeness" of Leupy to Swarovski for any measure of performance, for MY eyes there is no comparison. Leupy doesn't come close enough to play in the same field.
Everyone's eyes are different, but in my vision, Swarovski is always better. And I don't even like Euro products, sold a Swarovski (possibly the best hunting scope I have ever owned) because I am so anti-European. However, I refuse to let my prejudices influence others... get the Swarovski. You won't be disappointed.
Opinion,untempered by fact,is ignorance.

The VX III is a great match.  That's what's on my Kimber .260.

Swaro, no question.
3-9x36 will work.  I really like their ballistic reticule.

Hi Jabber,

I know it is not on your list, but I have a Kahles CL 3-9 x 42mm on my Kimber Montana .300 WSM.  The scope is mounted in Talley Lightweight One-Piece mounts.  The scope is just the right size for the rifle.  I mention the Kahles because it has better optics than the Leupold, but is not as expensive as the Swarovski.

I used the rig to take a cow elk during the first rifle season in Colorado near Meeker in 2007.  Everything functioned perfectly, even after landing on my azz in the mud by a creek and jamming the scope into the mud during the fall so that the scope objective filled up with a plug of mud.  I dunked the whole outfit in the creek to clean off the mud, checked the barrel for obstructions, and made a 175 yd douoble-lung shot the next morning.

Anyways, I would suggest considering the Kahles scope for you Kimber.

since its a montana i wont evoke my honest oppinion here, if it were  say a kimber superamerica, i would suggest a loopie vx7, only because that damn gold ring really sets of the kimber for some reason in my eyes. but im no loopie fan either, so swaro kahles zeiss etc whatever you want works.
