I am looking for a new pair of 8x binoculars. I know that you get what you pay for but funds are short at this point.
I would like to know opinions on the Bushnell Legacy 8x42 and the Nikon Action 8x40 or any other binocs in this price range.
Thanks

How short?
Just how much money CAN you spend.
You are right that you do get what you pay for but, if you can swing at least a C-note and maybe just a little more, you can get some very serviceable optics. For example, Leupold Yosemite, Bushnell Legend, Pentax PCF WP II, etc.

What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

I would say $100 range would be at the upper end.

Go with one of the three I listed. The 8x30 Yosemite will be the least expensive at right about $100. Less if you choose the 6x model.
The 8x42 Porro prism Legend will cost you about $10 more and the 8x42 Pentax can sometimes be found for around $125 (though its regular retail price is about $160). Don't buy anything over 8x. |
