Hey, I am hoping I can get some advice. I just bought a Sako .243 and am looking to put a scope on it. Does anyone have any experience with Swarovski Z6's and Swarovski AV's? I am trying to compare the 2 Swarovski's with a Leupold VX III. I am wondering if there is an noticeable difference in the Z6 1.7-10x and the AV 3-10x. The Z6 is $700 more expensive in pricing, so I am trying to justify the difference.
Also, How does the Leupold VX III 3.5-10 compare to both Swarovski's? Any guidance would be appriecated. The pricing of the 3 is:
Swarovski Z6 1.7-10x- $1700
Swarovski AV 3-10x- $975
Leupold VXIII 3.5-10x $600

You asked how the Leupold compares to the 2 Swaros. In simplest terms: it don't. Not even close!
I own the AV and really like it (gt the ballistic reticule, it is clean and works great for longer shots.) I've heard great things about the Z6 but have no personal experience. Leupold makes NOTHING that competes with either scope in terms of optical quality. My recommendation would be the AV unless you do something that requires a larger magnification range. Also, I am sure the optics in the Z6 are brighter, so it might get you another 2-3 minutes of hunting every dawn and/or dusk. |

If you can afford the swaro, go for it. Is the price difference worth it? For me, it's a resounding YES.

Actually, the Swarovski literature and their website specifications tables list the Z6's light transmission value at 90% and the AVs at 94%, for what it's worth. According to Swarovski, they use the same glass and coatings for all their scopes in all series, from AV to Z6. The real advantage to the Z6 is the broader zoom range gives you more FOV on the low end vs. other scopes of the same magnification on the high end.

I have a Swarovski PH on my Kimber Montana and a Leopold VX 2 on my Winchester model 70, The difference is, pardon the pun, day and night, Swarovski is absolutely top shelf! |

The folks above do not lie. Leupold makes good scopes, however, if you research comparisons with others, they are overpriced. My Sightron SII, matches up very well against a VX-III. I've got a Kahles that makes any Leupold I've ever used look pretty dull. I've used Swarovskis and they, like upper end Zeis and Kahles are in a completely different league. If you have the money, buy German glass. If not, look a Sightron Big Sky, Nikon Monarchs and others. In my opinion you can get better scopes than the Leupold VX-III for less money.

you need to compare apples to a little more apples more like the v7 to a z6 , if you just talking glass the z6 is better, but its plastic turrets and click stops and over all durability put it behind the v7

I broke the turret on a Mk4 Ultra, durability is in the eye of the beholder. Or something. They are much more dissimilar than not,I agree with that. If you are going to the great sand pit, get the leupy (at military discount); if it is going on a hunting weapon and the 5 extra minutes of trigger time might be the difference between taking a shot on a champion buck or not, get the Z6. |

I have purchased a sako 85 and put a swaro on it. I am not sure what type of rings that you are going to use, but if you decide on warne make sure you get the new version. The rings were supposed to be the same as the sako 75. Wrong. After crimping te hell out of my new scope I called warne and they investigated. They have now change the mounts to fit the sako 85. I have been waiting three weeks for them and they are supposed to be in the mail to me now. I will let everyone know how they work out. I just hope my new scope is OK.
